Job Description

The multidisciplinary team of researchers in health systems (health services and policy researchers, data scientists, social scientists, and others), and administrators working in CRiHSP will provide an exciting and dynamic place in which people of diverse backgrounds collaborate towards the common goal of achieving excellence in Health Systems Research. The team will further benefit from a significant expansion in related fields and collaborations with the Department of family Medicine at the National University Health System (NUHS), the new Centre for Sustainable Medicine (CoSM) and the Centre for Behavioural and Implementation Sciences Interventions (BISI) at the School of Medicine and the Saw See Hock School of Public Health.

Purpose of the post

CRiHSP is hiring a highly motivated and experienced postdoctoral researcher. We are seeking to recruit a proactive and motivated research assistant to join the Bezos Centre for Sustainable Protein at the National University of Singapore (NUS) launched on 5 September 2024, the first of its kind in Asia to advance research in alternative proteins. Led by experts from NUS and research institutes in Singapore, the Centre aims to drive global food security and accelerate regional innovation. The focus will be on microalgae research and biomass fermentation, to produce high-quality, affordable, and sustainable microbial proteins from microalgae and biomass fermentation that can be further developed into cultured meat and plant-based protein hybrids. Microbial proteins will be cultivated through fermentation and processed using emerging bio-physical techniques for effective biotransformation, to improve digestibility, flavour, and nutritional profile. As a research assistant, you will assist with conducting and monitoring microalgal cultivation bioprocesses via analytical techniques to achieve maximal product titres, yields, and rates. As the Research Engineer (Equipment/Operations), you are directly involved in tool installation activities for semiconductor process tools. You would need to work proactively to coordinate with the contractor on the ground for the execution and take corrective and preventive actions of lessons learned, due diligently to prevent reoccurrence. You are responsible for performing utilities turn-on after installation is completed. You must perform the activities per ASTAR site procedure and safety policies to ensure all tool-install-related activities are completed, meeting safety, quality, schedule and budget requirements. You will also be required to perform other activities such as operations for the different semiconductor modules (Diffusion, Litho, Dry/Wet Etch, Thin Film, Implant, etc).

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate with all tool-install base contractors to execute equipment hookup for new tools, to meet the high-quality standards, dynamic schedule, and forecasted budget.
• Coordinate with the Project owner (NGTC/APM) to facilitate utility release as per the planned schedule and update tool release status timely
• Follow all safety and environmental procedures to ensure compliance with EHS-related regulations, risk assessment, safe work procedures, and permit-to-work system.

This position plays a critical role in advancing sustainable protein solutions for urban environments through interdisciplinary collaboration, drawing expertise from mechanical engineering, mechatronics, and food engineering. This is a 1-year contract with the possibility of extension after the first year.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a closed-loop control system to synchronize high-moisture extrusion and shape manipulator systems with a seamless integration and quality assurance.
• Integrate a variety of non-invasive sensors for a continuous and active monitoring on a food shape manipulator system.
