The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders (CVMD) Programme houses state-of-the-art technologies for profiling mitochondrial function and metabolic adaptations in human patients and other model organisms, and undertakes translational and clinical research in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.

Dr Wang Yibin’s laboratory has a long-standing research interest in the fundamental mechanisms of cardiovascular and metabolic regulations in physiology and diseases. The laboratory employs state-of-the-art genomic and metabolomic approaches, aiming to identify novel players and mechanisms in transcription and post-transcription regulation, stress-signaling pathways as well as novel therapeutic targets relevant to cardiometabolic disorders. The selected candidate will perform a variety of research activities under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate, including but not limited to the following: -

• Independently carry out the design and execution of experimental research required by the research component of the project.
• Write and review research papers, present research outcomes, conceptualise new ideas and develop plans for independent research which could have a considerable influence and impact on the relevant field attracting research funding.
• Provide support for external grant/protocol development, study design and management of research activities.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Project Overview

SMART CAMP (Critical Analytics for Manufacturing Personalized-Medicine) is an interdisciplinary research programme in Singapore (CREATE international research campus and innovation hub) and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). SMART CAMP addresses key technology bottlenecks in cell therapy manufacturing: (i) critical quality attributes (CQA) of safe, effective cell therapy products; and (ii) integrated process analytics to monitor and modulate those attributes. Our efforts are focused on allogeneic and autologous cell therapy products, including but not limited to cell sources including adult stem/progenitor cells and immune cells for treatment of specific cancers, tissue degeneration, and autoimmune diseases.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support interdisciplinary projects focused on translating candidate safety Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs) to improve the safety of cell therapy products and patient safety. He/She will work under the supervision of postdoctoral associates in SMART CAMP, with mentorship by principal investigators in Singapore and MIT. The successful candidate’s primary activities include but are not limited to routine mammalian cell culture maintenance and expansion, clinical sample processing and molecular-based activities according to established protocols in SMART CAMP, as well as general housekeeping and maintenance of lab inventory, consumables, SOPs and risk assessments.

An experimental Postdoctoral Researcher Position in the group of Dr Ahmet Avsar at Material Science and Engineering Department of National University of Singapore is available to develop novel spintronics devices based on magnetic topological insulators.

The research involves advanced nanofabrication in state-of-the-art research facilities, and magneto-transport measurements utilizing low-temperature cryostats. It also includes data analysis, physical interpretation of the results and writing research articles. More specifically, spin surfaces of magnetic topological insulators will be probed and novel spintronics devices based on these intrinsic magnetic topological insulators will be developed. Our National Research Foundation supported group has a ~ 100 m2 lab space with a full access to a clean room facility at the Graphene Research Centre (CA2DM) dedicated to 2D device physics and a cryofree low temperature high magnetic field measurement facility (three cryostats capable of applying magnetic fields up to 12T at base temperatures down to 250 mK). While the researcher will have the opportunity to start her/his experiments immediately, she/he is also expected to contribute into building our newly established laboratory.
