STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The Memory Aging & Cognition Centre (MACC) is a Research Center within the National University Health System funded by the Singapore National Medical Research Council that focuses on the study of dementia and cognitive impairment in the elderly. The MACC currently has 4 research themes on (i) neurochemistry, molecular pathology and biomarker discovery, (ii) neuroimaging, (iii) clinical assessment and (iv) epidemiology.

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our team at the MACC. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the daily operations and maintenance of the laboratory, as well as the handling of samples obtained from human or animal studies. The HRPC is a first-of-its-kind research centre, established at the NUS, to spearhead and conduct research and development to better enable the future challenges arising from rising ambient heat. Appointments will be made on a two-year contract basis, with the possibility of extension.

The Research Assistant/Associate who will play a key role in assisting in the development, execution and analysis of research aimed at addressing the challenges of training and operating in rising ambient temperatures. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary group comprising exercise and thermal physiologists, data scientists, biomedical engineers and researchers. This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to not only develop your expertise in research planning and execution, but also to be a part of the team looking to generate fundamental and forward-looking solutions to working in the heat. There are also opportunities to pursue a part-time PhD with HRPC.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The new Centre for Research in Health Systems Performance (CRiHSP) aims to advance research in this area within the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of the National University of Singapore (NUS) as the leading centre for research in health systems in Asia with the following core functions:

1. Research: empirical and methodological research and evidence synthesis on health systems performance with a particular focus on Value Based Healthcare.

(c) Application of plasma modeling tools like particle-in-cell and magnetohydrodynamics to plasmonic or excitonic systems.

(d) Study novel optoelectronic effects in low-dimensional materials and time crystals.

The applicants should have a Bachelor's degree (for the Research Assistant position) or a Ph.D. degree (for the Research Fellow position) in Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering, or Applied Mathematics. Preference will be given to those with a strong publication record, open-minded, independent, and able to collaborate with other team members and experimental partners. Ph.D. students (graduating within 6 months) with relevant expertise are also encouraged to apply.

Technical requirements:

(a) Ability to formulate physical models and solve the formulated equations analytically or numerically.

(b) Strong foundation in numerical simulation, including developing and modifying existing codes to include multiple physics.

(c) Solid foundation in electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, solid-state physics, material sciences, and computational methods like finite-difference-time-domain, finite-element, particle-in-cell, etc.
