Tasks:

• Conduct literature reviews on the use of digital technologies and AI applications in public health, focusing on dengue and Covid-19 prevention, monitoring, and control.
• Assist with data collection through interviews with stakeholders (public health officials, tech developers, researchers) and through document analysis of government reports, policies, and relevant publications.
• Support comparative analysis of prevention strategies, focusing on digital technologies (mobile apps, AI, IoT, drones) used in different countries.
• Analyze secondary health data (e.g. dengue incidence rates, app usage statistics, etc.) and integrate qualitative findings from interviews.
• Assist in preparing academic manuscripts, policy briefs, and presentations.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's or Master's degree in public health, geography, urban studies, data science, or a related field.

· Experience with qualitative research methods.

· Strong interest in digital technologies, AI, and public health in Asia.

One Research Engineer position is open in the research group of Assistant Professor Zhao Lin, at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The Research Engineer (RE) will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on visual navigation foundation model for mobile robots, exploration using reinforcement learning control, learning-based control, etc. The RE will develop and train algorithms that enable intelligent and robust autonomous navigation in unseen environments. We are seeking to recruit a research fellow to join the Bezos Centre for Sustainable Protein at the National University of Singapore (NUS) launched on 5 September 2024, the first of its kind in Asia to advance research in alternative proteins. Led by experts from NUS and research institutes in Singapore, the Centre aims to drive global food security and accelerate regional innovation. The focus will be on microalgae research and biomass fermentation, to produce high-quality, affordable, and sustainable microbial proteins from microalgae and biomass fermentation that can be further developed into cultured meat and plant-based protein hybrids. Microbial proteins will be cultivated through fermentation and processed using emerging bio-physical techniques for effective biotransformation, to improve digestibility, flavour, and nutritional profile. As a research fellow, you will lead projects to optimise microalgae cultivation processes and apply bio-physical techniques to improve nutritional and organoleptic properties. Appointments will be initially made on a 1-year contract, renewable for up to 5 years.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct research activities in accordance with the Centre objectives involving but not limited to:
i. Conversion of industrial food side-streams into media suitable for microalgae cultivation.
ii. Microalgae cultivations in flask and benchtop bioreactors under batch, fed batch, or continuous modes.
iii. Conduct chromatographic, spectroscopic, and fluorescent analyses to monitor microalgae growth.
iv. Monitor the success of bio-physical techniques via in vitro digestibility studies, chromatography, and advanced microscopic analyses.
v. Assist in scaling up cultivations to pilot scale setting.
- Conceptualise new ideas, plan, and drive the overall direction of projects.

Project Overview

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate, to systematically organize knowledge for a project on “Designing human-AI teams.” The project is part of a five-year research program on "Mens, Manus and Machina—How AI Empowers People, Institutions and Cities in Singapore (M3S)."

Successful applicants for this position will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary project that aims to dramatically rethink how people and AI systems will work together in the future. To do this, the project seeks to build a strong scientific foundation for how AI can augment (as opposed to replace) humans.

An important goal of the project is to develop a rich ontology of activities that can be performed by human-AI teams. Like categorizing the plants and animals on a little-explored continent, the work will involve cataloging many (a) activities and (b) possible human-computer processes for performing these activities.

To do this, we will develop knowledge graphs that include (1) descriptions of many different types of activities and processes, and (2) classifications of these descriptions into multi-dimensional taxonomies that range from very general types of activities to very specific ones.

These knowledge graphs will then be used to automatically generate promising ways of combining humans and AI systems to perform different tasks. In the long run, we believe these tools will help rapidly (a) identify use cases for new AI capabilities, (b) specify effective processes and task allocations to humans and computers in a given situation, and (c) identify innovative ways to combine people and AI to solve business and societal problems.

The T6 team is led by distinguished scholars, including Profs. Thomas Malone, Charles Fine, Armando Solar-Lezama, Jinhua Zhao, and Abdullah Almaatouq from MIT; Prof. Marcelo Ang from the National University of Singapore; and will be assisted by Prof. Archan Misra from Singapore Management University.

Responsibilities

• Developing descriptions of current or potential activities and processes based on various sources such as: interviews, field studies, literature reviews, and generative AI systems (such as ChatGPT).
• Making editorial decisions about what content from these sources to include in the knowledge graphs and how to present and organize this knowledge clearly.
• Collaborate with the project team and other researchers to design, implement, and evaluate research projects.
• Perform other duties as needed.
• Publish research results in top-tier conferences and journals, and disseminate research findings through presentations and other means.
• Participate in the mentorship and training of graduate and undergraduate students at MIT and in Singapore.
