We are seeking to recruit a proactive and motivated research assistant to join the Bezos Centre for Sustainable Protein at the National University of Singapore (NUS) launched on 5 September 2024, the first of its kind in Asia to advance research in alternative proteins. Led by experts from NUS and research institutes in Singapore, the Centre aims to drive global food security and accelerate regional innovation. The focus will be on microalgae research and biomass fermentation, to produce high-quality, affordable, and sustainable microbial proteins from microalgae and biomass fermentation that can be further developed into cultured meat and plant-based protein hybrids. Microbial proteins will be cultivated through fermentation and processed using emerging bio-physical techniques for effective biotransformation, to improve digestibility, flavour, and nutritional profile. As a research assistant, you will assist with conducting and monitoring microalgal cultivation bioprocesses via analytical techniques to achieve maximal product titres, yields, and rates. The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at the National University of Singapore (NUS) seeks a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow to join an interdisciplinary research project on surveillance for zoonotic and vector-borne diseases in changing environments (SENSOR Project). This project focusing on emerging diseases in Borneo and is conducted in collaboration with an international consortium of universities in Malaysia, Singapore and the UK. This position offers the opportunity to work on ground-breaking research projects in the broad areas of environmental change, infectious disease surveillance, spatial epidemiology, machine learning and global health.

Key responsibilities:

• Conduct high quality research in epidemiology, machine learning and/or meta-analyses to identify impacts of environmental change on infectious disease dynamics and design targeted surveillance approaches;

This is a 1-year contract with the possibility of extension after the first year.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a closed-loop control system to synchronize high-moisture extrusion and shape manipulator systems with a seamless integration and quality assurance.
• Integrate a variety of non-invasive sensors for a continuous and active monitoring on a food shape manipulator system.
• Develop and adapt custom firmware to integrate extrusion, in-line monitoring and control system with software protocols.
