A Senior/Principal Process Development Engineer is responsible for developing or overseeing the development of chemical processes including low carbon processes as well as monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing processes in a pilot plant leading up to a technology transfer. He/she will perform process design, engineering and scale-up of in a Low-Carbon Technology Translational Testbed (LCT3) on Jurong Island leading up to a technology transfer. This role requires good understanding and knowledge of the underlying key process/chemical engineering and scientific principles of low carbon technologies and uses computer aided engineering tools such as simulators, process and plant engineering tools for process development and engineering. The Ocular Epidemiological Research Group at SERI conducts ophthalmic epidemiologic research in Singapore and Asia under the Singapore Epidemiology of Eye Diseases (SEED) programme collectively involving over 10,000 study subjects, with comprehensive clinical, image and genetic data. One of the projects including SEED data is ‘Diabetes studY in Nephropathy And other Microvascular cOmplications (DYNAMO-II)’. DYNAMO-II aims to determine the longitudinal relationship between retinal imaging parameters and long-term risk and progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and determine the predictive value of retinal vascular imaging measures in identifying patients at risk of CKD, and other adverse outcomes including renal failure, cardiovascular disease and deaths using both data-derived machine learning and retinal image-based “deep learning” algorithms with validation in different local and international cohorts. DYNAMO also includes a clinical cohort that recruits diabetic patients from clinics to predict the progression of CKD.

Working collaboratively with a team of population health scientists, geospatial scientists, and data engineers, the post holder will lead on building an agent-based simulation model for Singapore. A Postdoctoral position is available at the Berkeley Education Alliance for Research in Singapore (BEARS) with Assistant Professor Yanwei Lum. The goal of the project is to develop electrochemical systems for CO2 conversion and work with high sensitivity analytical tools that would be amenable for high throughput screening and reaction mechanism investigation. The candidate is expected to build model catalyst systems to investigate hypothesis and validate existing theories. They will also work in the framework of a larger team at BEARS for high throughput analysis and screening. It is expected that these will eventually lead to rationally designed catalysts for electrochemical CO­2 reduction.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Perform materials synthesis and characterization.
2. Carry out electrochemical studies to determine electrocatalyst performance.
3. Perform product analysis and quantification using methods such as GC, HPLC and NMR.
4. Perform mechanistic studies of electrochemical CO2 reduction mechanisms.
5. Work with high sensitivity chemical analysis equipment.

Qualifications
