The objective of this project is to advance the field of RNA analysis by developing and implementing innovative analytical tools. These tools will be used in a comprehensive study of all forms of RNA -- the ribonucleome -- and the >170 RNA modifications -- the epitranscriptome -- in disease pathobiology, host-pathogen interactions, biomarker development, and therapeutic target discovery.

Responsibilities

The Research Engineer will plan and conduct experiments with the aim of studying the roles of RNA modifications in human immunue diseases. The candidate will work primarily on cell culture, RNA isolation, and chromatography-coupled mass spectrometry analysis. As part of this work, the candidate will prepare results for publication, be a liasion with the AMR IRG community, work with external collaborators, and develop strong experimental and communication skills.

Requirements

• B.S. or M.S. in biochemistry, molecular & cell biology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.

Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute, NTU is looking for a Research Fellow with expertise in heterogeneous catalysis to develop improved catalyst formulations for conversion of plastic waste into carbon nanotubes and hydrogen.

The project is funded by National Environment Agency, Singapore to address one of the largest problems in waste management – the problem of plastic waste pollution. A significant fraction of plastic waste has substandard quality for mechanical and chemical recycling even after sorting and cleaning. The Research Fellow will use pyrolysis-chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technology for converting these plastic waste streams (specifically, contaminated and rejected plastics) into multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and hydrogen. The role of Research Fellow is to develop catalysts that will allow to reduce catalyst cost and increase carbon nanotubes yield to make the process more economically viable.

Key Responsibilities:

The candidate will be undertaking full research work and administrative duties during the term of employment within the following areas:

• Catalyst formulation and testing in pyrolysis-CVD process;
• Liaising with toll manufacturers regarding the feasibility of scaled up catalyst production.
• Cost-benefit analysis for the developed catalyst(s).
• Publishing research papers and documenting developed intellectual property. Reporting the progress to stakeholders (internal and external).

Job Requirements:

• Ph.D. degree in a field relevant to heterogeneous catalysis (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Environmental Engineering or other).
• PhD thesis or postdoctoral experience related to heterogeneous catalysis for at least one of the following areas: (a) catalytic waste conversion into carbon nanotubes and hydrogen, (b) catalytic single-walled and/or multi-walled carbon nanotube synthesis from any feedstocks.
• First-author publications in the areas mentioned above.
• High proficiency in English (e.g., TOELF, IELTS, GRE) for preparation of research papers
