Our interdisciplinary program is designed to provide experiences that foster scholars’ professional development by working closely with national and international experts, and equip them with independent research skills in multi-disciplinary areas, such as nutrition, reproductive health, maternal and child health, endocrinology, behaviour intervention, biostatistics and epidemiology.

Successful candidates are expected to 1) conduct original research for publications based on data from several large cohort studies in the United States and in Singapore, such as the U.S. National Institute of Child and Human Development (NICHD) Fetal Growth Studies, Diabetes & Women’s Health Study (www.dwhstudy.org), Growing Up in Singapore Towards healthy Outcomes (GUSTO), and the Singapore Preconception Study of Long-Term Maternal and Child Outcomes (S_PRESTO); 2) present at scientific conferences; 3) contribute to competitive grant applications; and 4) mentor junior researchers within a multi-disciplinary research team. Hosted by CNRS@CREATE, the program ‘Carbon Negative production of advanced Sustainable Aviation Fuels using twin synthetic bacterial consortia Project’ (CNegSAF) is an international collaboration between world leading institutions in France and Singapore including CNRS, Toulouse Biotechnology Institute (TBI), National University of Singapore, A*Star (SIFBI), and Nanyang Technological University. CNegSAF aims to demonstrate the feasibility of using a synthetic bacterial consortium to convert green hydrogen and concentrated waste CO2 (released by chemicals companies) into sustainable aviation biofuels. This innovative research program has the potential to significantly contribute to Singapore’s and the world net-zero emissions target while supplying sustainable aviation fuels to the aviation industry.

DESCRIPTION

To join this team, we are looking for a candidate who will be in charge of enzyme engineering activities using state-of-the-art evolutionary engineering and computational enzyme design techniques. The candidate will be involved in the development of screening protocols, construction and screening of enzyme libraries, designed by in silico molecular modelling. These enzymes will be further used for the creation of novel metabolic pathways for terpenoid production in engineered bacterial strains.
The perspective researcher will work in a multidisciplinary environment with access to high-throughput screening equipments (both in Singapore and Toulouse, France) and have frequent and strong interactions with other scientists involved in metabolic engineering, pathway engineering and computational enzyme design.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biochemical engineering or related field
• Experience with enzyme engineering and enzyme library construction
• Expertise with HT screening, assay design and development and trouble shooting
• Experience in structural biology and molecular modelling/computational enzyme design would be a plus
• Preferred experience with protein production, purification, characterization and crystallization knowledge
