Job Responsibilities
1. Supervises all technical aspects / performance of assigned vessels' operation including maintenance, repair, safety and environmental protection to ensure that these are carried out in a flawless, efficient, competitive and customer focused operation and according to the international and flag state legislation and to initiate corrective actions when such performance is not compliant with the Company's standards. Collects all necessary information in order to timely compile the dry-docking and major repair specification and participates in the planning and monitoring of major repairs and/or dry-docking repairs and services.
2. Drafts and controls fleet's technical annual budget (e.g., spares, stores, lubricants) in order to develop and implement competitive budgets and maintain the commercial competitiveness of the fleet.
3. Monitors the superintendent engineers' visits on the vessels in order to check and evaluate their condition and maintenance progress; to issue further instructions on maintenance and repair activities; to file, record and report findings to the Technical Director.
4. Reviews and evaluates quotations for all technical spares, supplies, repair services, lubricants, paints, and engine stores to be purchased and authorizes the purchase order depending on the costs.
5. Cooperates closely with the claims department for the process of damage claims and collect all necessary technical information in order to provide technical back-up in support of such claims.
6. Informs immediately the Technical Director in case of emergency.
7. Coordinates and liaises with other departments within the company to collectively provide an efficient ship management service. More specifically, assists the Insurance Dept. on collection of necessary documentation; interacts with the Purchasing Dept. for procurement cycle follow up, spares, supplies and services in coordination with the vessels; coordinates with MSQ Dept. and the DPAs to ensure that assigned vessel are in full compliance with company's SMS (:e.g., certificates, NCRs, documents etc.); works with Crew Dept. and contributes to the recruitment, training and appraisals of the seafarers employed by the company; and cooperates with other superintendents (i.e., marine) and/or fleet operators to safeguard fleet's and company's best interest and achieve optimum vessels' performance.
8. If needed, visit the managed vessels to assess their condition during PSC and/or attends dry-dock and repairs in order to monitor their progress and ensure their effective completion.
