[What the role is]
The decarbonisation of international shipping and maritime sector has reached an inflexion point. Decarbonisation efforts will accelerate and intensify. At a recent meeting, the International Maritime Organization and its member states have enhanced the targets for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping, whereby emissions will reach net-zero by and around 2050. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is the key government agency responsible for charting the development of the maritime sector in Singapore. Hence, MPA will drive reduction of domestic emissions from the maritime sector, as well as play an role to in contribution to the decarbonisation of international shipping.

As a key member of MPA’s Communications and Community Division, you will drive the communications of MPA’s sustainability-related work, which contributes to MPA’s larger decarbonisation outcomes. You will be responsible for the profiling and reporting of MPA’s of both domestic and international sustainability and ESG (environment, social and governance) initiatives. You will also oversee the profiling of sustainability initiatives in the wider maritime sector. The work will involve close collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.

Working with the leadership team, you will be driving culture-building and communications relating to sustainability and ESG initiatives within the organisation.

Your key responsibilities and tasks include:


Profiling and reporting of sustainability and ESG initiatives:

  • Monitor and analyse the impact of international developments and emerging issues in sustainability/ESG reporting standards, assurance and other regulatory requirements.
  • Drive and promote awareness of overall decarbonisation and ESG efforts in the maritime sector.
  • Lead and work on assignments and projects to profile sustainability or ESG initiatives of MPA or the maritime sector.
  • Develop the concept of the annual sustainability/ESG report, and produce the report. This involves working with internal stakeholders to collate and present the relevant info and data. This also includes overseeing the procurement of a vendor, and working with the vendor final editing, design and production of the sustainability report.
  • Manage other periodic reporting, collating and presentation of data.
  • Engage relevant stakeholders to build expertise in sustainability and ESG reporting.
  • Represent MPA in international fora on sustainability reporting development

Driving sustainability culture-building and communications efforts in MPA

  • Develop an internal communications strategy to promote sustainability and ESG.
  • Advance MPA’s sustainability and ESG agenda, and working with leadership team and internal stakeholders on the associated change management and engagement effort.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to drive efforts to showcase MPA’s achievements in sustainability/ESG.
  • Co-lead the planning and execution of events with MPA CARE committee to promote appreciation and understanding of sustainability/ESG in MPA. This will include working with MPA-HR on necessary training.

Assisting in driving MPS sustainability culture building efforts. Key tasks include:

  • Engage Divisions on their respective Div-level ESG initiatives,
  • Monitor and raise awareness on health status of MPS’s GreenGov metrics,
  • Develop and execute Internal communications to promote sustainability,
  • Advance MPA’s ESG agenda, including driving associated Change Management effort,
  • Support HR in deploying staff awareness trainings,
  • Co-organise events with MPA CARE committee to promote sustainability awareness, including event planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.

[What we are looking for]

The candidate should have:

  • Preferably at least 2 to 3 years of professional experience in corporate sustainability reporting and familiar with various sustainability reporting and benchmarking mechanisms such as GRI and TCFD).
  • Preferably CPA, CMA, CFA, or sustainability certifications (e.g. GRI Standards, CDP, SASB, etc.).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to senior stakeholders.
    * Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritise tasks, and deliver projects on time and within budget.
    * Ability to analyse complex data, identify trends, and draw insights.
