Job Summary:
The Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment at the aviation industrial plant. This includes the implementation and management of safety and health programs, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the promotion of a safety culture among all employees. The WSHO will work closely with various departments to identify hazards, conduct risk assessments, and implement appropriate safety measures.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety and Health Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety and health policies, procedures, and programs.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and develop corrective and preventive measures.
- Ensure compliance with local, national, and international safety and health regulations and standards
Risk Assessment and Hazard Control:
- Perform risk assessments for various operations and processes within the plant.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend control measures to mitigate risks.
- Ensure proper implementation of hazard control measures and monitor their effectiveness
Training and Education:
- Develop and conduct safety and health training programs for employees and contractors.
- Ensure all employees are aware of safety and health procedures and their responsibilities.
- Promote a safety culture through regular communication and awareness programs.
Emergency Preparedness and Response:
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
- Coordinate and conduct emergency drills and exercises.
- Ensure all emergency equipment is regularly inspected and maintained.
Incident Management and Reporting:
- Maintain records of all safety and health incidents and accidents.
- Prepare and submit incident reports to relevant authorities as required.
- Analyze incident data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with other departments, such as Maintenance, Operations, and Human Resources, to ensure safety and health measures are integrated into all activities.
- Liaise with external agencies, such as regulatory bodies and emergency services, as needed.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated with the latest safety and health regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the safety and health management system.
- Participate in safety and health committees and contribute to the development of safety and health policies and programs.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all safety and health activities, including training records, inspection reports, and incident investigations.
- Ensure all documentation is in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
Qualifications:
- Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification as a Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a safety and health role, preferably in the aviation or industrial sector.
- Strong knowledge of safety and health regulations and standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and develop effective safety and health programs.
- Proficiency in using safety and health management software and tools.
