As the portfolio of projects under the program is growing, we have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join the team and contribute to industry-leading research and development and demonstration projects.
Reporting to the Head of Steel Decarbonisation Partnerships in the Marketing Sustainability team, this position plays an important role in the execution of our Scope 3 Action Plan, by leading collaborative projects with our partners and supporting the business in understanding and maintaining the role of our products in a decarbonised world.
Key accountabilities
- Support BHP’s Scope 3 Action Plan and Business Strategy by:
- Originating and managing projects and technical programs in coordination with BHP’s steel customers, research and other partners and vendors
- Leading engagement and forming high-value working relationships with internal functions, external partners and other stakeholders
- Providing technical, commercial and strategic expertise to aid project design and high-quality delivery of steel decarbonisation initiatives and subject matter input towards BHP’s scope 3 goals and Asset and product marketing plans
- Monitoring steel industry developments and technology changes, including ironmaking and CCUS sectors, to assess the impact on BHPs portfolio, markets and customers.
- Presenting technical and strategic views on BHP’s steel decarbonisation program at industry conferences and forums
About You
- Minimum of 12 years exposure to the steel/ferrous sector and deep technical expertise in process technologies, raw material use and industry trends
- Advanced academic qualifications in engineering or science and application to the steel industry
- Experience in structuring, managing and reporting on complex technical projects in a wide range of formats including multi-party research consortium, major testwork and technology trials, industry pilots and production trials
- Experience in R&D and experimental techniques to study iron ore agglomeration, direct reduction and electric furnace iron/steel production
- Experience in techno-economic modelling for steel production across a range of technology pathways
- Commercially minded with an ability to apply strategic thinking to solve complex problems and translate technical and other information into business decisions
- Experienced in engaging effectively with and influencing internal and external stakeholders at various organisational levels including executive
- Project planning and execution skills that enable effective identification, prioritization and delivery of critical work through coordination of cross-discipline and cross-cultural teams
- Written and verbal Mandarin language skills including technical topics
