Role Description – Overview
A Market Risk (MR) role at Southern Ridges Capital reports to the CRO and assists in providing oversight of the firm’s spectrum of risk-taking activities encompassing economic risks including credit, market, liquidity, principal, capital and country, as well as other core risks including operational, model, compliance, conduct, legal, capital and reputation risk, with controls and governance established for each area as appropriate. The MR function will play a key role in supporting the continued expansion of the firm and plays an integral role in ensuring the organization maintains a proactive risk and control culture through oversight and execution of control agenda and related programs.
Specific responsibilities
· Oversee the development and maintenance of risk management and reporting practices and enforcement of the Risk Management Framework, standard and practices.
· Facilitate the necessary training and development of staff, as well as the provision of guidelines, tools and ongoing advice to support the development of risk governance and risk management practices across the firm.
· Play a key role in the hiring process of Portfolio Managers, playing a key part in Capital Allocation and their on-boarding process including a Risk Induction meeting for the hired Portfolio Managers.
· Oversee daily, weekly and monthly controls monitoring risk utilisation at individual Portfolio Manager and firmwide level to protect the firm.
· Partner in the roll out of a new Portfolio/ Risk Management system.
· With respect to operational risk, support an open risk culture across the region with an emphasis on learning and continuous improvement. This includes training and support on incident management and broader initiatives / reviews to facilitate governance and control improvement within the region.
· Work with the Technology team on specific initiatives, risk and pnl deep dives and analysis of Portfolio Manager’s historical performance
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree with successful completion of a higher degree or professional qualification and an excellent academic track record;
· 5-10+ years of work experience in financial services, including experience in market risk management, internal controls, operational risk, audit, or equivalent;
· Strong understanding of technical market risk concepts
· Superior technical background in risk management with experience in enforcing risk management frameworks.
