What the role is
The Sustainability Division (SD) plans, strategises and develops initiatives to drive resource conservation and environmental sustainability across the public, private and people sectors. It develops and promotes programmes, coordinates and administers incentive schemes, and builds capability to support this drive. It also coordinates efforts within NEA for the organisation and its staff to play its own part in the nationwide effort. Working in the Sustainability Division, you will be responsible for developing and planning policies and initiatives related to sustainable waste-to-resource management and contribute towards Singapore’s vision of becoming a Zero Waste Nation enabled by a circular economy approach.
What you will be working on
Specifically, you will be part of a dynamic team under the Department of Sustainable Packaging Policy working in a fast-paced environment that will be involved in the planning, development and implementation of strategies and initiatives specifically relating to packaging and plastic waste management. Detailed work scope includes the following:
- Review global and local landscape for sustainable waste-to-resource management and develop strategies and roadmaps focusing on packaging waste including plastics
- Review and develop the framework for Extended Producer Responsibility scheme for packaging waste management
- Keep abreast of global trends and technologies, and develop robust internal knowledge and thought leadership with respect to packaging waste management
- Facilitate and organise stakeholder discussions, engagements, and consultations as part of the development of the packaging waste management strategies and roadmaps
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including other agencies, private sector companies, and industry associations to operationalise the developed strategies and roadmaps
- Review performance of existing strategies and initiatives for packaging waste management and recommend enhancements, including the required legislative levers and amendments
What we are looking at
- Degree in Chemical/Environmental engineering
- Passion for sustainability and environmental protection, adept at working with corporates and public stakeholders
- Preferably 4 – 6 years of working experience in sustainability, environmental and waste management fields; and/or policy/regulatory roles. Experience in developing/implementing Extended Producer Responsibility frameworks and packaging policies is highly valued.
- Quantitative skills and proficiency in data analysis and projections would be useful
- Outgoing and pleasant personality; mature, independent and resourceful; highly self-motivated; resilient and adaptable to diverse work scopes
- Exceptional organisational and project management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders concurrently
- Good team player, excellent interpersonal communication, writing and analytical skills
- Meticulous with an eye for detail
