Job Summary

This role will be fully responsible for performing/supervising all post-fixtures activities for dry bulk vessels chartered by the Company. He or she will maintain a system to provide the Company with up-to-date visibility of all vessels chartered. The Operations Manager will keep in constant contact with brokers, owners, charterers and report regularly to the Director of Chartering about actual positions, pending problems, outstanding’s and trends and analysis. He or she will introduce best practice methods and or adjust existing processes accordingly. The Operations Manager will be the main point of contact for all ports agents where the Company’s chartered vessels are loading or discharging, ensuring cargoes loaded/discharged as per Company processes/requirements.

Essential Duties

· Operations of commerial managed vessels and chartered tonnage (bulk carriers)

· Checking stowage plans / dead weight calculation

· Enquiring and checking port disbursements / controlling of respective vouchers

· Issuing voyage instructions to master

· Appointing and communication with agents

· Cost transfer of owners’ expenses

· Communication with masters, owners, charterers, brokers

· Issuing hire statements, credit notes to owners respectively invoices to charterers (sublet / owned vessels) incl. off-hire calculation

· Issuing freight statements and invoices to charterers (basis voyage terms)

· Laytime calculation

· Correspondence with the P + I Club including attending claims until arbitration

· Remittances of all credit notes / invoices including operation of banking program

· Provide operational support to the Manager’s.

· Review of daily noon reports; monitoring of speed; fuel and consumption.

· Review of vessel performance against charter party terms/voyage summary reports/avoid/mitigate off hires;

· Voyage communications with all concerned parties, ie, master, brokers, chartering department, technical management, agents, cargo surveyors and insurance brokers.

· Piracy zone setting, cost estimates and compensations from charterers.

· All voyage or time charter invoicing, including freight and hire invoicing, demurrage and dispatch claims, shifting claims and deviations.

· Management of bunkers, including purchasing as necessary.

· All agency appointments related with commercial operations and accounting, including negotiating agency contracts and rebates.

· Review of employment instructions with master.

· Balance hire/cargo claims handling/all voyage recoveries

· Voyage accounting, including comparisons against the charter party estimates, on completion of the voyage and when the voyage file is closed, including analysis of variances.

· May also be required to act as a member of an Emergency Response Team.

· Involved in the analysis and monitoring of operational data to ensure potential problems are averted.

· Provide guidance to Masters, Fleet Managers and general management on any special requirements.

· Provide advice to vessels and fleet management on cargo requirements, tank cleaning, stability and stress and to maintain all statutory requirements for the vessel in this field.

Job Requirements

· Preferably University degree and Minimum of 5 years of experience in dry bulk operations

· Good understanding of Charter Parties, survey reports and other commercial documents

· Knowledge of shipping cargoes and familiar with all related laws and regulations

· Good network within the shipping industry

· Fluent in English
