Assistant Environmental Manager is responsible for ensuring that an organisation complies with environmental regulations and policies, improves its environmental performance, and fosters a culture of sustainability. This role involves overseeing environmental management systems, including the Construction Environmental Monitoring and Management Plan (cEMMP), assessing environmental impact, and implementing strategies to minimise environmental negative effects.
Job Description
Compliance and Regulation:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Stay updated with changes in environmental laws and regulations.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and prepare necessary reports.
Environmental Management Systems:
- Develop, implement, and maintain environmental management systems (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001 or equivalent standards.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure EMS effectiveness.
Sustainability Initiatives:
- Identify opportunities for environmental improvements and sustainability initiatives.
- Develop and implement sustainability programs to reduce waste, energy consumption, and resource usage.
- Promote sustainable practices within the organisation.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
- Conduct environmental risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
- Respond to environmental incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Develop emergency response plans for environmental hazards.
Training and Awareness:
- Provide employee training and awareness programs on environmental policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Foster a culture of environmental responsibility within the organisation.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulatory agencies.
- Maintain records of environmental performance and compliance.
- Communicate environmental performance to stakeholders through reports and presentations.
Resource Management:
- Oversee the management of waste, water, and energy resources.
- Implement measures to improve resource efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

Job requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management or a related field; post 5-year Environmental Control Officer (ECO) registration is a plus.
- Certification in environmental management (e.g., ISO 14001 Lead Auditor) is a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of environmental laws and regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills such as PowerBi
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and manage projects.
- Proficiency in environmental management software and tools is a plus.
- Ability to conduct environmental audits and assessments.
