About the Position
Reporting directly to our SVP, Chief Underwriting Officer – Asia-Pacific. The Underwriter (Casualty & Specialty) role is based in the Singapore office.
Key Responsibilities
The Underwriter markets, analyzes, underwrites, models and services (re)insurance products, to help our company to achieve corporate profitability and growth goals.
You will:
- Underwrite a portfolio of casualty (re)insurance business that aligns with our risk and return goals
- Contribute to the mission of the organization by implementing its operational plans and strategies and promoting its corporate values and culture
- Conduct regular client visits and communicate underwriting requirements and philosophies
- Partner with clients to determine specific requirements and structure appropriate (re)insurance solutions to satisfy their needs
- Conduct analysis of primary operations, products and management teams
- Work with the actuarial team to analyze and construct reinsurance treaties to satisfy the needs of our clients
- Obtain supplemental underwriting information, analyze and interpret coverages, and negotiates final terms
- Develop relationships with clients and (re)insurance brokers to ensure flow of desirable business and to cultivate new business opportunities
- Inform on market trends for line of business and reports on assigned lines of business portfolio. Collaborate with team members in an integrated global casualty organization
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of our proprietary models to enhance decision-making in the selection, pricing and underwriting of the portfolio
- Participate in travel to interact with clients and brokers
- May help mentor and develop Analysts
Candidate Qualifications:
- A College or university degree is required, with typically 3 to 7 years of experience in (re)insurance underwriting
- An understanding of portfolio management
- Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, and identifies alternative solutions.
- Knowledge of global insurance and reinsurance markets
- A deep understanding of policy forms, reinsurance pricing schemes and the role and impact of actuarial, finance and claims in the underwriting process
- An understanding of actuarial concepts and the ability to interpret model results
- A reputation for managing relationships with clients and brokers
