About the role

The Group Tax Manager is a key member of the Global financial management community and reports directly to the Group Tax Director. He/She will be actively involved in the BEPS Pillar 2 implementation and planning, compliance and controls as well as compliance and reporting for the Asia region which includes India, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Philippines, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In addition, He/She will also assist the Group Tax Director in handling on a case-by-case basis, in M&A activities and other various ad-hoc projects at the Group level.

Key responsibilities

BEPS Pillar Two Compliance

  • Assist and support the Group Tax Director in rolling out and implementing the framework on tax compliance with the BEPS Pillar Two requirements on a global basis.
  • Assist the Group Tax Director in coordinating with the business units and functional leaders as necessary in response to the BEPS Pillar Two requirements including the monitoring of any top-up tax, the filing of the Globe Information Return and any domestic top up tax returns.
  • Assist the Group Tax Director in evaluating the effectiveness of technology in various tax processes, including compliance requirements under BEPS and other existing compliance processes.

Tax Strategy

  • Actively support the Group Tax Director in developing the Group’s tax strategy as the business and global tax climate evolved.
  • Assist Group Tax Director in implementing strategic tax decisions that drives the Group tax forward.
  • Identifying opportunities for further enhancement and development of the tax strategy and function.
  • Proactively contribute ideas that could help to mitigate tax risks and/or optimize tax opportunities for the Asia region.

Tax Reporting and Compliance

  • Manage tax compliance matters in Asia region, including but not limited to:
  • Review and approved the income tax returns and GST/VAT returns prepared by local finance or external advisors.
  • Collaborate with local financial controllers to ensure corporate tax and GST/VAT returns are filed on timely manner and tax liabilities are paid in due course.
  • Manage tax queries or tax audits to ensure they are dealt with appropriately and on timely manner. If need be, seek advice from external consultants.
  • Highlight to Group Tax Director any contentious tax issues and suggest any practical solutions.
  • Manage and review monthly tax reporting of the Asia region including WHT and cash tax payments, the budget process and year end closing of the entities in the Asia region.
  • Work collaboratively with business lines CFOs and functional heads in the Asia region to support any commercial initiatives including but not limited to review of tax implications on deal structures and agreements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Continuously review work processes to ensure efficient workflow to maximize efficiency and quality of information flow.
  • Lead or implement new projects as necessary from time to time.

About you

  • Degree in Accountancy or its equivalents
  • Accredited Tax Practitioner (Income Tax) qualification is preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in corporate tax, GST/VAT, withholding tax and transfer pricing from Big 4 and large MNCs.
  • In-house tax experience in a fast-paced environment and cross cultures organisation.
  • Hands on experience in tax reporting either at Regional or Group level.
  • Some level of knowledge on BEPS Pillar Two rules and requirements is preferred but not a necessity.
  • Strong technical knowledge of tax regimes in Asia.
  • Strong knowledge and application of tax accounting principles at Group consolidation level.
  • Well organised and detail orientated with strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure to deliver in tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, working knowledge of some ERP system is preferred.
  • Ability to deal with multiple stakeholders across different cultures.
  • Ability to work independently without much supervision.
