Job Summary:


We seek a dedicated and highly organised Oral History Archivist Executive to oversee the recording, transcribing, and syncing of oral history interviews with veterans and active military personnel. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in history, archival studies, or a related field and a passion for preserving the stories and experiences of military members.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage the recording, transcribing, and syncing of oral history interviews with veterans and active military personnel.
  • Identify potential interviewees within the military community.
  • Recruit, supervise, and direct oral history interviewers.
  • Conduct and record interviews with military personnel.
  • Collect, organise, and maintain recordings and collection documentation (consent forms, copyright agreements, metadata spreadsheets) from all interviewers.
  • Create interview transcripts, indexes, and summaries.
  • Collect any accompanying documentation, such as photographs, and negotiate transfer to the Archives.
  • Catalogue project and interview data.
  • Coordinate and consult with relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure all recordings and documentation meet the organisation's security and confidentiality standards.
  • Collaborate with military historians, archivists, and other relevant personnel to enhance the project's impact.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in History, Archival Studies, Military Studies, a related field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Experience in the use of a variety of word-processing, database, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of oral history and/or archives methods and best practices is preferred.
  • Understanding military culture and the unique challenges military personnel face is preferred.
  • Project management experience is preferred.
  • Experience working in a research environment is preferred.
