Job Description
Reporting to the Director, the incumbent will provide efficient administrative and technical support for research staff and students in carrying out their academic/research activities in the laboratories, while ensuring a safe and conducive environment for stakeholders.
Job Duties
- Manage lab safety, enforce safety rules, and ensure compliance with safety regulations; Conduct safety orientation for new lab users
- Develop and maintain SOPs and guidelines for laboratory operations
- Maintain lab equipment and chemical inventory listing
- Manage chemical and biological activities in the laboratory and ensure proper documentation, storage, and disposal
- Manage licenses and ensure safe operation and maintenance of equipment in the laboratory
- Manage assets and maintain proper records for audit
- Handle procurement of lab consumables and equipment, as well as replenishment of laboratory supplies
- Monitor, manage and report budget usage for the laboratory and assist in financial reporting and budget projections and planning
- Assist in the planning, development, and optimization of laboratory space
- Serve as First Aider, Fire Warden, Spill Responder, Safety Committee member
- Take care of the day-to-day lab operations and housekeeping
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biological, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline, with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in management of chemicals (HS, EP, P&FM) preferred
- Knowledge on local regulatory requirements (SCDF, SPF, NEA, MOM, etc.) for storage and handling of Hazardous Substances (HS) preferred
- Familiar with licenses applications, Petroleum and Flammable Material (PFM), Explosive Precursors (EP), Hazardous Substance (HS) etc.
- Experience and knowledge in risk management, workplace safety and health
- Experience in procurement and budget management to facilitate budget preparation for the laboratories
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications
- Experience in Emergency Response Team is a plus
