We are looking for Mainframes Batch Monitoring Engineers to manage critical mainframe batch and console operations for our banking environment. The role involves ensuring the smooth running of production, development, and disaster recovery (DR) environments by monitoring, troubleshooting, and responding to various system and batch-related activities.
Responsibilities:
- Route job listings to the development environment for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Monitor and promptly respond to system and batch console messages, identifying and addressing abnormalities or errors.
- Restart subsystems such as CICS (Customer Information Control System) and OPC (Operations Control).
- Manage batch jobs in OPC, including rerunning, bypassing, holding, prioritizing, or canceling jobs as necessary.
- Schedule batch jobs via OPC, ensuring timely execution and resource optimization.
- Monitor resource contention, such as datasets and tape resources, to prevent conflicts and optimize batch job performance.
- Download new configuration items to ATM machines, ensuring accurate and timely updates.
- Monitor ATM partner links to ensure connectivity and reliability.
- Start or stop batch initiators to adjust batch concurrency based on operational requirements.
- Restore End-of-Shift (EOS) reports as instructed by business users.
- Coordinate the cancellation of ChangeMan deployment packages as needed.
- Purge hung Change Data Capture (CDC) processes to maintain system stability.
- Achieve job listings to tape resources for archival purposes.
- Perform daily start-up procedures for the DR environment to verify the replicated image from the production environment.
- Escalate batch job failures or critical checkpoint misses to SMEs or the Command Center promptly for resolution.
- Conduct regular infrastructure and application health checks to identify and address potential issues proactively.
- Monitor system resources, including JES (Job Entry Subsystem) pool, CPU utilization, CICS max tasks, long-running transactions, and jobs.Generate system monitoring reports to track performance, trends, and potential areas for improvement.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in mainframe batch monitoring and console operations in a banking or financial services environment.
- Strong knowledge of mainframe technologies, including JES, CICS, OPC, and ChangeMan.
- Proficiency in batch job scheduling and management using OPC or similar tools.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyze and resolve complex issues under pressure.
- Experience in monitoring system resources and performance metrics to ensure optimal operation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels and escalate issues appropriately.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Flexibility to work in a 24/7 environment with occasional on-call duties.
