Retail Merchandising Executive, Global Travel Retail

WEPURPLE is looking for a Retail Merchandising Executive to join our team for a 12-month contract. For the duration of the contract, the successful candidate will be on a secondment to our client, a luxury/premium whisky company (the Client), on a full-time basis.


About the role:


This role is responsible for supporting the Global Travel Retail Permanent Visibility projects for the Client’s full portfolio of brands, across all Travel Retail locations globally.

This will include supporting the Retail Merchandising team with project coordination of permanent space installations and renovations, including drawings review and production monitoring, stakeholder management and administrative support.

This role will be responsible for the permanent visibility POSM management and coordination across the GTR channel, including development, market order process, procurement, and delivery in collaboration with agencies, internal marketing / retail teams, and operator logistic teams. The role is responsible for financial A+P management, including purchase order / invoice administration and project cost reporting.

Reporting into the Retail Merchandising Manager, this role will support GTR’s vision to elevate retail excellence in permanent spaces internationally, delivering best-in-class execution for all brands.


Daily duties/responsibilities:


Working in line with the global brand guidelines, this role is responsible for supporting the Global Travel Retail roll out of Permanent Visibility and POSM.

Permanent Visibility management:

  • Facilitate the verification of drawings and close monitoring of production and installation progress for all Permanent Visibility projects (post technical drawing approval), in collaboration with a designated project management agency.
  • Work with key stakeholders (commercial, customer marketing, retailers) to provide support and advice in order to deliver best in-class retail standards for all brands.
  • Manage all requests for maintenance and repairs.

POSM management:

  • Oversee and manage all Permanent Visibility POSM development, ordering and production. To follow up orders with agencies and markets and ensure order fulfilment.
  • To manage all Permanent Visibility POSM inventory and ensure sufficient stock to disseminate to markets for each installation.
  • Collab with operations and Trade Excellence teams for frontline inventory needs and logistics communications.

A&P management:

  • Financial administration of PO and invoicing, including vendor creation and updating of internal A+P Trackers.
  • Responsible for checking estimates against budget, and invoices against POs.
  • Submission of invoices for payment and follow up with internal finance teams.
  • Project Costing Reports and Updates

Administrative support:

  • Updating and maintaining of Permanent Visibility Tracker, to ensure that information is up to date.
  • Brand assets updates
  • Arrangement of courier services
  • Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by Manager.

Qualification criteria:


The role requires a good knowledge of visual merchandising production and design, with the ability to assess production drawings against approved TDs, checking of materials and quality checking and control. Design ability is a strong plus.

A keen eye for detail during the manufacturing stage, and post-installation to ensure any issues are promptly corrected and the final outcome is in line with brand expectation. Being able to manage multiple stakeholders, including general contractors and design agencies, to achieve excellence in execution is essential.

The role will engage with different levels of stakeholders hence good communication and presentation skills is required.


Skills & Experience:

  • Tertiary Education with bachelor’s degree, ideally in Business Administration, Marketing or Design.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in Luxury Goods and Services and / or FMCG.
  • Ideally with Travel Retail background across multiple market channels and territories.
  • Good understanding of retail designs: conceptual design, design development, material application, visual merchandising, furnishing, lightings, etc.
  • Ability to draw and understand detailed technical drawings is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills, well organised, ability to multi-task and build good working relationships with people throughout the business, third party operators and partner agencies.
  • Excellent communication skills and high proficiency in spoken and written English. Proficiency in Chinese is a plus.
  • Able to collaborate and communicate effectively across international teams, working cross-functionally with operators, regional teams and agencies/contractors.
  • Well-organized, meticulous, detail oriented.
  • Financial acumen in managing budgets, POs and invoicing.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft applications such as Office, PowerPoint and Excel.
