General Area of Responsibility
The Berthing Coordinator will principally be focused on securing the optimum berthing sequence for the network within the region. 3 key elements to the role are to:
- Ensure that vessels’ berthing schedule matches network requirements.
- Ensure that terminals can meet the requirements of the network.
- Ensure that pressure is put on terminals to accommodate vessels arriving off schedule.
Specific Areas of Responsibility
- Coordinate berthing at hub ports/Terminals with multiple vessel calls.
- Provide terminals with preferred berthing sequences.
- Minimize berthing conflicts of vessels within MSC network.
- Ensure that terminals provide the number of gangs required to meet sailing time requirements and as per the terminal SLA and/or proforma.
- Communicate potential delays to stakeholders within MSC.
- Minimize vessel waiting time for vessels within scope of responsibility.
- Take overview of regional rotations to ensure berthing bottle necks are avoided.
- Suggest to Network Operations PICs for slowing a vessel down or to speed up to avoid berth clash & berth on arrival (BOA).
- Discuss with Network Operations PICs for possible change of rotation when berth is not available in a particular port.
Other General Duties
- Assist with various reports & statistics.
- Update daily situation of all ports under area of responsibilities.
Candidate Requirement
- Degree/Diploma holder, preferably in Maritime Transportation or Nautical Studies.
- Minimum 2 years working experience in container shipping industry.
- Independent and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Able to work long hours, on weekends and public holidays when required.
- Good interpersonal, communication and time management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Working knowledge of CASP is essential but not necessary.
- Believe in team-driven culture.
- The ability to speak various languages is also welcome.
