What is in it for you
As a Senior Port Captain, you will be shore-based in our office in Singapore, primarily supporting the commercial teams on the trading floor. Your main focus will be to guide and advise your colleagues with marine and technical support as well as coordinate with the business development team.
You will be part of a great and energetic business unit and a global network of port captains, working in an open office environment with 11 colleagues in the Projects & Parcelling team.
You will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of various types of cargo. You will use your deep understanding of maritime regulations and great leadership skills. You will be in daily direct contact with the internal commercial and operational teams as well as the various external stakeholders including port authorities, ship agents, stevedores and government agencies.
The tasks that await you
As the Senior Port Captain you will be tasked with managing cargo operations, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and optimizing the use of resources. This position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure. You will have a Port Captain reporting directly to you. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in the multi-purpose industry.
Your primary tasks include:
- Cargo optimising and stowage plans.
- Sea fastening plans and calculations.
- Lifting plans.
- Vessel attendance to manage loading and discharging operations.
- Prioritizing, respecting, and motivating your team member, encouraging them to follow procedures, and standards displaying good energy, empathy, flexibility, ambition and trust. Understanding the importance of developing the team daily, listening and providing constructive feedback and coaching at the right time. While handling operational leadership tasks like holiday planning, handovers and leave strategies.
Your competencies and core qualities
We are looking for an experienced colleague who has a background in the multi-purpose shipping segment combined with experience from a shore-based operational position.
Further, we expect that you hold the below:
- Experience with steel, project and heavy lift cargo.
- A good understanding of vessel voyage costs.
- Experience from the shipping industry.
- A commercial and flexible mindset.
You also have to enjoy dealing with stakeholders at various levels.
