This is an opportunity to join Vita Coco in a newly created role as an Ocean Freight Logistics Specialist and help structure the organization’s future approach to procurement and management of our ocean freight network. This role will be part of the Supply Chain International Logistics team, but will work cross-functionally with our Domestic Logistics and Finance departments.
This role is hybrid, based out of our Singapore Office, reporting to the Director of Global Planning and Logistics.
Main Responsibilities:
- Establish access to a vast network of freight forwarders and shipping lines to expand the company’s portfolio of ocean freight vendors
- Procure ocean freight and secure vessel space through ocean freight agents and direct bookings via carrier’s online portal
- Record and rank of ocean freight rates in Excel and Power BI reports for easy-to-use decision-making tool when selecting carriers for ocean freight shipments
- Track allocations and bookings against planned weekly shipments
- Oversee the entire shipping process, including communication with customs and ensuring all necessary documents and processes are followed
- Manage pre-alerts daily to determine whether freight is arriving as expected and ocean documents are received within the specified time standard
- Establish and manage relationships with origin and destination counterparts, including carriers, suppliers and ocean freight system’s management representatives
- Gather and analyze data to evaluate the performance of vendors and carriers
- Help resolve issues with carriers, ports and terminals at origin and destination
- Integrate ocean freight information with the destination logistics team, to provide visibility on ocean freight systematically
- Develop and manage budgets for ocean freight operations and provide insights to the finance planning team
- Gather and analyze data on freight cost, volume, sailing schedules, routes and other indicators to provide intelligence on forecasting cost of freight and carrier allocation
- Stay current with developments and changes in applicable laws, regulations and other government requirements
- Oversee compliance with applicable regulations, other government requirements and filings, and company standards
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Finance, Business, Economics, or related field
- Minimum 3+ years of ocean freight forwarding experience or supply chain planning experience
- NVOCC experience is a plus
- Proven ability to establish or enhance ocean import/export operational functions
- Results oriented with the drive to expand and diversify an international ocean freight network
- Strong analytical skills with a systematic problem-solving approach
- Experience with CPG industry preferred
- Experience with ERP system such as SAP preferred
- Strong Excel and data reporting skills required
- Power BI report building expertise is a plus
- Detail oriented and time committed
- Strong negotiation skills, ability to secure favorable terms with shipping partners
