Teaching Assistant (Art)

St. Joseph's Institution International Elementary School Ltd.

St Joseph’s Institution International Elementary School, a Catholic & Lasallian school that provides a quality international education for a diverse student body, rooted in the community of Singapore, is seeking a dynamic, conscientious and proactive individual to join the Elementary School.

We are seeking for this position to start in January 2025.

Job Purpose

  • Assist teachers, staff and the Leadership Team with the organisation and running of the Elementary School
  • Support students in all aspects of the school day, particularly Art lessons

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in ensuring the well-being and safety of the Elementary School Students
  • Support teachers with the delivery of the curriculum and learning activities in Art
  • Support teachers with the provision and organisation of learning resources in Art
  • Be a role model for Lasallian Values and School Vision, Mission, Values and the Virtues Programme

Art Department Specific Tasks and Duties

Start of each day:

  • Clear drying rack and put artwork away
  • Tidy tables and baskets
  • Check duties for the day and complete without supervision

For each lesson:

  • Put out materials as instructed
  • Place sketchbook basket on table for the class coming in
  • Listen to lesson with the students so you can know how to assist
  • Work with students if requested or work on Preparation and other jobs
  • Gather artworks at the end of class, label and put away into the metal drawers
  • Put away materials used for that lesson (check to see if needed the next day, then can leave out)
  • Absent students - explain the lesson and have them look at other students artwork to get an idea of what they need to do

End of each day:

  • Check weekly schedule for materials needed for the day and prep
  • Wash equipment, as needed
  • Tidy table and baskets, materials on shelves, sink area and TP table
  • Clear drying rack and put artwork away
  • Tidy and organise TA desk area

Other tasks:

  • Support the teacher to develop students’ independence to manage their materials and art process
  • Support the Art HOD and teachers with display boards, ordering of supplies, budget tracking/PR Forms and special events such as Art Exhibitions and Collaborative Artworks
  • Assist with extra art classes or art club held at break, lunches or as CCAś
  • Work with Art Room Helpers (G5 and 6 students)
  • Work with classroom TAs to find materials/borrow equipment with needed
  • Alert Art HOD and teachers when supplies are low or needed
  • Collect deliveries when needed
  • Support the HOD in correspondence with vendors to find necessary supplies/materials
  • Keep track of materials which have been lent out to Elementary School staff through the sign-out book
  • Liaise with High School DT/Art Technicians when materials/equipment are being borrowed or lent

Specific Tasks and Duties

  • Observe and monitor student behaviour in the classroom, during transitions and at recess reporting any matters of concern to the appropriate teacher
  • Prepare learning materials for the teacher by making, photocopying or organising resources
  • Assist the teacher during special Art events and during school wide celebrations
  • Create displays and signage in the Art Room and corridor areas
  • Sort, audit and organise Art Room resources in preparation for the next term

Communication

  • Communicate with teaching and administrative staff, Teaching Assistants, TA Coordinator, the Leadership Team and students effectively, respectfully and in a timely manner
  • Report to the Art Teacher / Art HoD any matters related to child safeguarding, Health and Safety, discipline or personal concerns

Collaboration and Relationship Management

  • Support teachers with the organisation and management of the students as a class, in groups or individually whilst promoting high standards of behaviour and discipline
  • Work collaboratively and purposefully with Art teachers, homeroom teachers and other Teaching Assistants
  • Collaborate and communicate regularly with the AP Student Success and TA Coordinator as part of a team that supports the academic, social and emotional development of each child

Self-Evaluation and Quality Assurance

  • Participate in the school’s evaluation process as a reflective practitioner and use this as an opportunity for professional growth
  • Seek opportunities for professional development through a range of opportunities such as professional reading, in-school or external workshops

General Areas of Responsibility

  • Be an advocate of the school and its decisions during interactions with students, staff and the community.
  • Lead in nurturing a Lasallian Catholic ethos by building upon the legacy and tradition of the school firmly anchored in Faith, Service and Community
  • Demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality within and beyond the workplace
  • Maintain updated knowledge of Child Protection and pastoral care generally
  • Maintain good working relationships with colleagues and students
  • Be a role model within the school in terms of professional conduct and work ethic
  • Treat others fairly and with respect in order to create and maintain a positive school culture
  • Inform and support the SLT as needed
  • Take on specific tasks related to the day-to-day administration and organisation of the school as requested by the Principal or SLT
