Legal and Compliance Manager

Job Description

1. Review various types of commercial contract such as sales & purchase of the goods, non-disclosure, guarantee & indemnity, etc. in ASEAN & Southwest Asia
2. Managing disputes such as reviewing statement of claim, negotiation with counterparty, communications with litigators, etc. in ASEAN & Southwest Asia
3. Collection of bad debts such as negotiations with debtor(s), reviewing statutory demand letters, making applications for insolvency against debtor(s), etc. in ASEAN & Southwest Asia
4. Planning and conducting internal training sessions for local staffs as a lecturer on certain subjects relating to commercial laws, internal regulations and compliance issues including trade compliance to be held semi-annually in ASEAN & Southwest Asia
5. Planning and conducting Compliance Committee meetings, Information Exchange meetings and internal compliance trainings for rotating staffs working for our group companies in ASEAN & Southwest Asia
6. Trade compliance operations for our group companies in ASEAN & Southwest Asia
7. Investigation of compliance issues in ASEAN & Southwest Asia
8. Compliance due diligence for investment projects in ASEAN & Southwest Asia
9. Responding to and resolving whistleblowing in ASEAN & Southwest Asia
10. Report to the Japan headquarters on compliance activities in ASEAN & Southwest Asia
11. Response to customs inspection in ASEAN & Southwest Asia

Job requirements

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Laws or its equivalent
2. Business level Japanese Language skills, preferably JLPT N1 or N2 for liaising and reporting back to HQ in Japan
3. Minimum 10 years of experience in legal/compliance department of a publicly listed company and/or a reputable law firm
4. Knowledge and experience with compliance (incl. anti-bribery)
5. Knowledge and experience with trade compliance such as export control, trade sanctions, customs control, FTA/EPA etc.
6. Lawyer qualification preferred.
