Finance Officer
A renewable energy and green hydrogen developer is seeking an experienced Finance Officer to support the development of new energy assets in its portfolio and manage financial affairs to drive the growth of the business. The company is developing renewable energy and green hydrogen projects using cutting-edge technology to support the global energy transition. The current project developments are in selected European and other key target markets - with the pipeline expected to grow globally over time.
The Finance Officer will have a wide and varied finance experience, as the role will involve leading corporate finance, supporting subsidy applications, as well as overseeing accounting supervisory matters of the business. As the team is in the growth stage, it requires joiners to hit the ground running. Accordingly, candidates with prior experience in renewable energy technologies (solar, battery, hydrogen) will be viewed favorably. The Finance Officer will be responsible for owning and maintaining the financial model, preparing investment proposals and investors presentations, as well as end-to-end handling of project financing. The role will involve liaising with regulatory bodies and consultants in Europe regarding subsidies and grants (and other jurisdictions as the pipeline grows). The Finance Officer will also work closely with stakeholders to manage the financial administration and management of the business.
The Finance Officer will be expected to:
Financial Modelling and Corporate Finance
- Construct, review and maintain detailed financial models to assess and support the development of the portfolio of renewable energy assets.
- Review the economic and financial assumptions, ensuring that the commercial and structural details of projects are reflected in the financial model.
- Update the models for sensitivity analyses, project financing, and capital raising.
- Develop investment analysis and produce high-quality investor presentations to secure mandates from internal and external decision makers.
- Lead the preparation of investment memos, board papers, financial proposals and present financial output in a clear and concise format.
- Prepare marketing material for key stakeholders including funders, investors, financial institutions, subsidy award and regulatory bodies.
- Develop and implement financing strategies to support project development.
- Lead the identification of sources of financing for projects, establish relationships with European (or global) infrastructure and development finance institutions.
- Ensure the projects being developed are bankable and financeable.
- Coordinate the end-to-end financing process, including structuring and negotiating financing terms, due diligence, and managing legal, financial and technical advisors.
Subsidy Applications and Project Development
- Support work-streams relating to participation in renewable energy subsidy or grant auctions and bid rounds in EU (and other jurisdictions as the asset portfolio grows).
- Working with stakeholders to prepare subsidy applications and bids, including pre-qualification documentation, financial models, budgets, estimates and other material.
- Coordinate queries and information requests as part of subsidy or grant application.
- Work with internal, external and regulatory stakeholders to track and reconcile all subsidy or grant disbursements and costs, ensuring accurate and timely recording.
- Support the origination and execution of supply and offtake contracts, including PPAs.
- Coordinate the development and negotiation of term sheets, Joint Development Agreements, SHAs, Project Finance facility agreements, and subsidy award contracts.
- Perform research in relation to counterparties, markets, projects and assets.
- Maintain understanding of global energy markets and regulatory environment to support development of project portfolio.
Accounting and Financial Administration
- Oversee and support the financial and supervisory matters of the company, subsidiary SPVs and investor companies as necessary, including ad-hoc duties assigned.
- Ensure timely posting of transactions includes checking and verifying invoices, perform month-end company and bank reconciliation.
- Oversee preparation and reconciliation of accounting entries, payroll and claims, and work alongside external parties for processing of payments and receipts.
- Assist in annual reporting e.g., attend to auditors and/or tax agents, financial statements preparation, consolidation (if required), and annual return.
- Lead the finance controlling function including statutory compliance and reporting.
The ideal candidate will have:
- University degree in finance, accounting, economics, business or other related fields.
- 8-10 years of working experience, ideally within the renewable energy sector.
- Professional Qualification in finance (ex. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CFA) an added advantage.
- Solid grasp of financial analysis on both investment and project financing aspects.
- Strong financial modeling skills and experience with financial models for energy projects.
- Prior experience in solar, battery, hydrogen or other renewable technologies (exposure to European or global energy markets and subsidy schemes a plus).
- Knowledge of renewable energy project economics and familiarity with energy markets.
- Understanding of energy project contracts (ex. Project Financing, PPA).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Systematic and methodological approach, with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Fluent in English, with knowledge of either Estonian or Bahasa an added advantage.
