Job Summary:
The Materials Planner is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate procurement of materials to support production schedules based on historical demand, backlog and market forecasts. This role involves working closely with vendors, demand planning teams and procurement teams to manage material availability, lead times, and inventory levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Material Planning:
- Develop and maintain material requirements plans (reorder point/safety & max stock planning) based on production schedules and demand forecasts.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure timely and accurate procurement of materials to support production schedules.
- Supplier Management:
- Partner with strategic sourcing and procurement teams to establish insights into suppliers’ capability to manage material availability, lead times, and inventory levels.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure reliable supply.
- Inventory Management:
- Monitor inventory levels and take corrective actions to ensure optimal inventory levels.
- Implement inventory strategies to minimize excess and obsolete inventory.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze material planning data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Develop and maintain material planning performance metrics and provide regular reports to management.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in material planning.
- Participate in cross-functional projects to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the material planning process.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in material planning or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of material planning principles and supply chain management.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
