The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Fellow on a 28-month contract at the English Language and Literature Department.
Project Title: Assessment as Learning in Writing Classrooms Supported by Technology and AI
Project Introduction: This study explores teachers' collaborative professional learning in assessment as learning (AaL) for technology- and AI-enhanced English writing classrooms. Specifically, it investigates how teachers implement AaL assisted by technology and AI in writing classrooms, and how such AaL practices impact student learning and writing. The study also examines factors that facilitate or hinder teachers’ professional learning and AaL practices in technology- and AI-supported writing classrooms. To set the context for the study, the main study will be preceded by a survey investigating the beliefs and practices of Singapore English teachers regarding classroom writing assessment, as well as the extent to which technology and AI are utilized in support of classroom writing assessment.
Requirements
Essential:
- Doctoral degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, education, or a related field
- Skilled in both quantitative and qualitative approaches to research
- Good interpersonal skills
- Interest in understanding the use of technology and AI in support of the learning, teaching, and assessment of classroom writing
Preferred:
- Record of excellent scientific writing skills
- Familiarity with Singapore school systems
- Experience in classroom or school-based research
- Survey design and development experience
Responsibilities
- Provide assistance with the design of research instruments, data collection, and analysis
- Analyze data gathered from the study
- Liaise with participating teachers / schools
- Contribute to the dissemination of research findings: conduct literature reviews, prepare academic publications (e.g., conference presentations, papers, book chapters) and research reports
- Perform other tasks as required by the Principal Investigators
