Responsibilities and Duties of Assistant Teacher (Primary)
Job Title: Assistant Teacher Directly Reports To: SENCo, Associate Vice Principal, Deputy Principal (Primary)
Position Description: Under the direction of the SENCo and AVP/DP the assistant teacher is responsible for the smooth and effective discharge of the following duties.
KEY TASKS
1. Display a professional attitude towards all aspects in the Assistant Teacher role Expected Results
• Maintain confidentiality of information and discretion about students, staff and parents
• Provide a supportive attitude towards teachers, their learning programmes and their classroom philosophies
• Implement learning programmes as instructed by the SENCo and in conjunction with the class/subject teacher for specific students
• Adherence to the specified hours of work
• Be punctual to the classroom before lessons take place
• Maintaining a code of ethics and presentation which provides an effective role model for students
• Dress appropriately and conduct oneself in a mature, professional manner at all times
2. To support students identified for special assistance in any area of the curriculum as required.
Expected Results
• Work daily on a timetabled basis with the identified students supporting the provision of in class interventions designed by the SENCo and class/subject teacher
• Facilitate an increased level of independence in the students that are being supported Where deemed appropriate provide one-to-one/small group support for those experiencing difficulties in specific areas
• Provide feedback, keep records (as directed) by the SENCo for evaluation alongside the stages of the school’s referral process
• Assist teachers and classes on educational visits as required
3. Assume responsibility as directed by the teachers for the organisation and distribution of resources where required within specified grades. It should be noted this is a subsidiary task and should only be undertaken when time allows Assistant Teacher
Expected Results
• Prepare available resources for staff wherever practicable
• Ensure shared grade level resources are kept in an orderly and organized manner. Attend all staff meetings, planning meetings, training sessions, assemblies, etc.
• Support clubs and ECAs
• Attend all school events
