About the Company
Aliena is a leading Singapore-based space-tech company, aiming at providing high-resolution data to terrestrial businesses by enabling a fleet of imaging satellites to fly closer to the Earth using our proprietary electric propulsion engines. In January 2022 Aliena became the first company to onboard a Hall plasma thruster on the smallest satellite ever launched on orbit to feature such a device. A second launch in July 2023 saw the deployment in orbit of our MUSIC 100 W-class Hall thruster.

By joining our dynamic and visionary team, you will take part in defining the future of Earth observation and state-of-the-art low power plasma propulsion systems.
Your responsibilities
● Drive the research and development effort for the Thruster Units and subsystems based on the Hall effect thruster technology at various power.
● Drive the research and development of simulation tools for plasma devices such as plasma, electro-magnetic and thermal simulations to underpin the optimization of existing Thruster Units and the design of future Thruster Units.
● Work closely with the Operations and Production team to develop Thruster Units and subsystems with a focus on design-for-cost and design-for-manufacturing.
● Devise and conduct qualification and lifetime testing of Thruster Units and subsystems.
● Collaborate with and support the plasma testing, fluidic, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams in the development and integration of the overall propulsion system.
● Support the design of laboratory experiments to test the Thruster Units performance and subsystems such as cathodes.
● Assist in the environmental testing of thrusters and other Aliena systems. Travelling abroad might be involved.
● Suggest design improvements to the overall propulsion system architecture
● Collaborate with the mission managers and product owners to plan for the production stage of the propulsion systems
Qualifications
● Degree in Space Engineering – Propulsion, Space Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar fields
● Previous experience with designing and experimental testing of plasma propulsion systems is highly required (ideally Hall effect thrusters, hollow cathode, ion engines or RF thrusters)
● Previous experience with electric propulsion thruster testing and vacuum facilities is required
● Competency in numerical simulation software (ANSYS, FEMM, COMSOL, SOLIDWORKS) for plasma (0D, 2D, fluid, PIC, hybrid), thermal, mechanical (static, dynamic), and fluid (CFD) simulations is required
● Knowledge and experience with CAD software (SOLIDWORKS) is required
● Experience with MATLAB/GNU Octave/Scilab and programming languages such as Python, C/C++, C#, etc. is required
● Knowledge of plasma diagnostic techniques for electric propulsion is a plus
