Job Description

The role focuses primarily on domestic and international trademark clearance, prosecution and enforcement, leading global trademark portfolios, and providing support in trademark disputes. We are willing to train motivated individuals with solid strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills, strong communication capabilities (both oral and written), and a passion to learn about and practice in the trademark space. Trademark experience is helpful, but not required.

Your team

You will report to a Senior Brand Legal Counsel within the Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMA) Legal Team based in Singapore. This is an opportunity to work with a dynamic team of legal counsels and legal professionals that are strategic, business-focused and partner closely with our business clients to serve and win with consumers all around the world.

How success looks like

Success in the role will require you to help drive business results in AMA by combining legal expertise, practical business judgment, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and good communication skills to offer clients clear explanation of basic trademark issues together with creative and effective business solutions.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Conduct online, worldwide trademark searches and associated on-line marketplace investigations needed to enable the provision of clear, business-focused advice and risk analyses.
  • Collaborate with in-house and outside trademark attorneys and paralegals to lead an international trademark portfolio for one or more P&G business units. This will include directing and preparing significant volumes of trademark applications, prosecution responses, and registration and renewal documents.
  • Collate materials for and drafting of affidavits of use, drafting simple cease and desist letters, replies to trademark office actions, on-line marketplace takedowns, oppositions and other trademark and copyright enforcement activities
  • Assist counsels on trademark enforcement in the region - infringements, passing off, counterfeits, Attend Copy Approval Meeting for assigned category and be able to spot trademark and copyright issues for business unit counsel to attend to.
  • Trademark portfolio management – ensuring adequacy of TM protection in core markets, whitespace expansion, attending to trademark maintenance & renewals

Other administrative responsibilities:

  • Organize Meetings: align schedule, handle logistics, assist in the preparation of meeting summary and agenda, circulate meeting materials.
  • Update inhouse trademarks database for trademark prosecution, opposition and other contention matters
  • Prepare trademark reports for purposes of renewals, prepare report of contentious issues for purposes of sharing with business leadership team.
  • Liaise with Business Unit Finance for the processing of outside counsel fees, follow up with payment and trouble-shoot with Accounts Payable when payment issues arise.
  • Electronic document management for all trademarks related correspondence
  • Liaising with external trademark agents and third party service providers like CPA for backoffice TM work
  • Occasional administrative tasks like preparing expense reports, attending to billing enquiries

Job Qualifications

  • 2-5 years’ experience as a paralegal or similar in-house role.
  • Basic working knowledge of trademarks, copyright & other IP and how it relates to marketing & branding
  • You love being in a multicultural, collaborative and diverse environment
  • You have fantastic interpersonal skills to persuade, influence and adapt communication style to different situations and individuals
  • You have experience in intellectual property rights, preferably brand protection.
  • You have excellent organizational skills.
  • You are flexible, ready to pivot as business needs arise.
  • You are innovative, ready to bring new ideas in how to work more efficiently and simplify work processes.
  • A good command in Japanese, Korean or Arabic would be an advantage, although not necessary
  • Preferably have experience with Excel, Power BI, and SharePoint.
