The Manicurist cleans, shapes, and beautifies a customer's nails. He/She applies decorative finishes to their customers' nails. He/She removes all finishes and extenders before soaking the fingertips in sudsy solutions to soften the cuticles. He/She pushes the cuticles back and trim them with scissors. He/She files nails into a nice shape. He/She may apply fake nails or nail enhancers to lengthen and strengthen the nails. The Manicurist suggests nail art that matches the customers' favourite colours. Customers often ask for specific types of nail art. The Manicurist uses crystals, fine metallic threads, or hand painted decals. He/She applies several layers of clear polish to protect the design.
The Manicurist must be both trendy and creative. He/She must be able to work with their hands for long periods of time. He/She works in nail salons located in shopping malls and private salons. Some travel to their customer's homes.
