Job Description
The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Fellow in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The Department of Microbiology and Immunology has distinguished itself in biomedical research and has a broad spectrum of expertise. Research in the Department encompasses very diverse questions and uses a wide variety of approaches, experimental systems, and techniques. Principal Investigators of the Department are internationally recognized for research on immunology, medical virology, bacteriology, parasitology, molecular biology and biotechnology. Appointments for this position will be made on a 1-year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for up to 3 years based on performance.
Purpose of the post
The Research Fellow will be responsible for investigating molecular regulation of cell death during infection and disease.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Research Fellow will lead the research project in which he or she will work closely with the PI to investigate the molecular regulation of cell death during microbial infection and inflammatory disorders. The main duties and responsibilities are listed below but this is not exhaustive and may evolve as the project and lab requirements develops.
- To design, perform and analyze the data independently
- To perform gene editing in primary human and murine myeloid cells, and bacterial mutants
- To perform biochemical and cellular assays such as immunoprecipitation, confocal microscopy and subcellular fractionation
- To perform infection models in vivo
- Assist with other duties such as training of junior lab members
Qualifications
The applicant should:
- Have a PhD in Immunology/Biochemistry/Cell Biology/Microbiology or related discipline
- Have experience small animal (e.g. mouse) infection model
- Competent in cell and molecular biology techniques such as cloning, bacterial mutagenesis, retroviral transduction, western blotting, qPCR, flow cytometry and microscopy
- Have a first author primary research publication
- Be able to lead the project and work independently, and train junior lab members
