RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that company policy related to Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality Assurance (HSEQA) issues are effectively implemented and regularly monitored for its compliance in relation to the operation of the fleet vessels. To advise Corporate Compliance Manager (CCM) and Designated Person Ashore (DPA) in writing any information related to the vessel or crew’s inability to comply with ESM’s environmental measures and any other marine environmental protection requirements.
  • Full Understanding of EUETS / EUMRV and ensuring compliance with these regulations in the fleet.
  • Monitoring IMO updates on Decarb regulations and implementation of such regulations in the fleet.
  • Check Main Engine and Diesel Generator performance on a regular/ monthly Basis and provide solutions to the Fleet Manager/ Director, Technical for improving the machinery performance, if found deteriorated or not meeting the Charter Party requirements.
  • Keep abreast of all the new regulations applicable to the fleet vessels and ensure effective and timely implementation of these.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Technical Superintendent in preparing the dry docking repair specification. Review and finalize the repair specification together with the superintendent, prior to submission to the owners.
  • Attend the dry docking of vessels as and when required to identify any gaps and implementing the desired improvements.
  • Inspection of the fleet vessels on a regular basis to identify the common defects and/ or areas for improvement. Conduct training of ship staff on key technical issues and for enhancing the safety culture onboard.
  • Keep the technical circulars/recommendation/modification repository from the makers for the Main engine, Auxiliary engines and Auxiliary boilers, updated on a regular basis.
  • Prepare technical circulars for fleet information/ broadcast on any technical matter as and when required.
  • Oversee fleet-wide implementation of machinery modification/ updates/ supply.
  • Provide guidance and support to the technical superintendent in conducting RCA of major technical findings in PSC / vetting inspections. Oversee fleet-wide implementation of corrective actions.
  • Control of any changes, additions or improvements to Phoenix (PMS).
  • Monthly checking of Phoenix to alert fleet managers / Technical Directors on overdue items like PSC RCA, machinery maintenance follow-up of VIR items (office tasks) etc.
  • Maintain contact with classification societies, shipyards, repair firms, industry groups, trade associations, equipment manufacturers and designers, government bodies and other organizations that may be helpful in carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Assist the Corporate Compliance Manager (CCM) with the implementation of the Engineering Requirements as required by Environmental Compliance Program standards.
  • Monitor the fleet vessel’s mails daily to identify any breakdowns or serious machinery defects and alert the fleet manager and Director, Technical for taking appropriate action. Identification of and follow up for resolution of fleet-wide technical issues, till closeout
  • Assist the Technical Superintendent / Fleet Manager in any major breakdown till its rectification and completion of Root cause analysis and sharing lessons learnt on a monthly basis.
  • Provide support and guidance and follow up with the R&D team at SIMS till completion of technical projects.
  • Mentoring and training of new Technical Superintendent and hand-holding for the initial 6-month period.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Educational Qualification should be at least a Graduate Engineer (a Degree in Naval Architecture or MSc. in Maritime Safety would be Preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years in Leading a team for Classification Society or Ship Management of Foreign Going Vessels.
  • Demonstrated Commercial acumen and ability to manage vessel financials within scope as well as satisfy client’s requirements
  • Basic knowledge of Energy Management Systems and / or energy conservation methods is an advantage
  • Preferably not have changed companies during last 5 years.
