Assistant Manager, Regional Legal & Compliance Office

Legal Work


· Manage, review, negotiate and well-operationalise the contracts for the APAC business teams. Able to draft, review and provide advice on sales, operational, logistics and shipping contracts.

· Capability to manage the legal and contractual aspects of a variety of complex contracts ensuring compliance with the company’s policies and procedures, applicable laws and contractual obligations. Liaise with relevant business units to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action have been taken.

· Work with business stakeholders including senior leaders to assess legal implications and potential risk, help them identify, understand and manage both short-term and long-term risks to the business.

· Exercise sound judgment regarding actions required to address issues or risks and escalate to the appropriate level in the organization.

· Balance the need to manage risks and to achieve business objectives.

· Ability to work well with business stakeholders and become a trusted business partner and work according to the commercial pressures of the sales business in a fast-paced environment.

· Provide legal advice and support to Sumitomo Chemical Thailand and the Thai JVs.


Compliance


· Draft/Review internal policies to mitigate risks.

· Continuously monitor compliance with statutory obligations and advise management accordingly.

· Conduct due diligence/KYC checks.

· Able to devise and conduct effective legal and compliance training to business units.

· Good working knowledge of Sanction Laws, Anti-corruption Laws and Competition Law.

· Provide compliance advice and support to Sumitomo Chemical Thailand and the Thai JVs.

· Assist in compliance investigations related to Thailand and Vietnam.


Administrative


· An opportunity to mentor/coach one/two junior members of the team.

· The candidate should possess 6-8 years of PQE (At least 2 years’ PQE working experience in a mid to large law firm).

· The candidate must have English & Thai language skills at a professional level and Japanese language skill at a working proficiency level.
