The Waste Yard Manager will be responsible for overseeing daily operations within the waste yard, including waste collection, sorting, and processing. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a solid understanding of waste management practices, and a commitment to safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- To ensure that yard operations run smoothly at all times. This includes but not limited to management of traffic in the yard; ensuring good functionality of machine/equipment and reporting any irregular findings to management; and making sure all vehicles are in proper working order
- Manage and coordinate daily activities within the waste yard to ensure efficient waste handling and processing.
- Supervise, train, and motivate a team of waste yard personnel, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and operational procedures.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels of waste materials and equipment, ensuring adequate stock and proper usage.
- Ensure all operations comply with environmental regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Prepare and maintain detailed reports on waste volumes, operational performance, and regulatory compliance.
- Address customer inquiries and resolve any issues related to waste management services.
- Assist in managing the budget for the waste yard, controlling costs, and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
Qualifications:
- Min 2 years experience in waste management or a related field.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and safety standards.
- Experience with inventory control and budget management.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
- Certification or training in waste management or occupational health and safety is a plus.
- Added advantage if candidate possess relevant trade certificates eg Forklift/ Excavator
