Planning Engineer

(Civil Construction)


Primary Objective:

Develop engaging presentations for client meetings, presentations, and public consultations. Ensure that the content is well-organized, visually appealing, and effectively conveys the project's key messages.

Responsible for developing and managing construction project schedules, coordinating various activities, and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.

Ensuring the smooth execution of construction projects by effectively planning, monitoring, and controlling all aspects of the project.

Involve project documentations, including the tender write-up, technical specifications, and project reports and develop construction methods and sequences for a project

Estimate timescale for a project and to ensure that outlined deadlines are met

Work closely with Directors, Managers, engineers, and supervisors to ensure project runs on schedule and material supplies are sufficient


1. Project Planning and Scheduling

  • Develop Project Schedules: Create detailed project schedules using project management software like Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar tools, outlining all phases of the construction process.
  • Define Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): Break down the project into manageable sections or tasks (WBS) to organize the workflow and track progress.
  • Resource Allocation: Plan the allocation of resources, including labor, materials, and equipment, to ensure efficient use throughout the project.
  • Milestone Identification: Identify key milestones and deliverables and set deadlines for each phase of the project.

2. Coordination and Communication

  • Team Coordination: Work closely with project managers, site engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to align the project schedule with the overall project objectives.
  • Communication: Facilitate clear communication among all project participants, ensuring everyone is informed of the project timeline, progress, and any changes.
  • Client Interaction: Regularly update clients on project status, including any adjustments to the schedule or potential delays.

3. Monitoring and Controlling

  • Progress Tracking: Monitor ongoing construction activities against the project schedule, ensuring that the project is on track.
  • Critical Path Analysis: Identify and manage the critical path of the project to ensure that any delays in key activities are mitigated promptly.
  • Adjust Schedules: Update and revise project schedules as necessary, based on changes in project scope, resource availability, or unforeseen challenges.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks that could impact the schedule and develop mitigation strategies to address them.

4. Budget Management

  • Cost Control: Track project costs and compare them against the planned budget to ensure financial efficiency.
  • Forecasting: Provide cost and time forecasting to anticipate potential budget overruns or schedule delays.
  • Variance Analysis: Analyze variances between the planned and actual progress and costs, and take corrective actions where necessary.

5. Compliance and Documentation

  • Compliance with Standards: Ensure that all planning activities comply with industry standards, legal requirements, and best practices.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of the project schedule, revisions, resource usage, and any issues encountered during the project.
  • Report Preparation: Prepare and present regular progress reports to project management, clients, and other stakeholders.

6. Quality Control

  • Ensure Quality Standards: Work with the quality assurance team to ensure that construction activities meet the required standards and that any quality issues are addressed without affecting the schedule.
  • Inspection Coordination: Coordinate inspections and reviews to ensure that project milestones meet quality requirements.

7. Continuous Improvement

  • Performance Analysis: Review completed projects to analyze performance, identify areas for improvement, and apply lessons learned to future projects.
  • Innovation in Planning: Explore and implement new tools, techniques, and methodologies to improve planning accuracy and efficiency.
  • Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest trends, software, and best practices in construction planning to continuously improve skills.

8. Support to Project Managers

  • Decision-Making Support: Provide project managers with detailed planning information to assist in decision-making.
  • Change Management: Assist in managing changes to the project scope, schedule, or budget by providing updated plans and schedules.

Job requirements

Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent recognized by Professional Eengineers Board in Singapore.

Min 4 years’ experience in Civil related projects

Able to function software (Primavera, MS Project, Autocad, Photoshop)

Must be able to prepare and write the method and constructions sequence of works

Proven experience in LTA projects i.e. utility diversion, infrastructure, cycling pathway, and road diversion

Good knowledge of technical and civil engineering.

Strong planning, assignment, scheduling skills

Strong command of written communication skills

Ability to present technical information clearly and concisely.
