Job Summary
The Pathologist Assistant to the Senior Pathologist provides critical support to ensure the efficient management and prioritization of pathology cases. This role requires an individual who is highly organized, tech-savvy, and resilient, with a foundational understanding of pathology.
The Pathologist Assistant will handle administrative tasks, coordinate urgent case management, and facilitate smooth communication between the pathologist and other healthcare professionals. This position is key to maintaining the workflow and effectiveness of the pathology department.
Roles & Responsibilities
Case Management Coordination
- Prioritize and manage the urgency of pathology cases as directed by the Senior Pathologist.
- Track and update case statuses, ensuring timely follow-ups and communications.
- Assist in organizing and maintaining the pathology case files and records.
Administrative Support
- Manage billing and verification of charges for services rendered
- Schedule and manage appointments, meetings, and consultations for the Senior Pathologist.
- Prepare and organize documents, reports, and presentations related to pathology cases.
- Handle correspondence, including emails, phone calls, and mail, ensuring prompt and accurate responses.
Communication Facilitation
- Serve as a liaison between the Senior Pathologist and other medical professionals, patients, and administrative staff.
- Coordinate with laboratory and clinical staff to relay critical information and ensure smooth workflow.
Technological Proficiency
- Utilize medical and office software efficiently to support the Senior Pathologist’s needs.
- Assist in the management of electronic medical records (EMRs) and pathology databases.
Problem-Solving and Resilience
- Address and resolve any issues or challenges that arise in the day-to-day operations of the pathology practice.
- Demonstrate resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced and often high-pressure environment.
Support and Assistance
- Provide support during pathology case reviews, including taking notes and preparing follow-up materials.
- Assist with organizing and attending departmental meetings and conferences as needed.
Confidentiality and Compliance
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient information and sensitive case details.
- Ensure compliance with relevant medical regulations and organizational policies.
This role is vital in supporting the Senior Pathologist's efficiency and effectiveness, and requires a combination of technical aptitude, organizational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Requirements:
- Diploma in Life Sciences / Business Administration
- Have min of 3 years working experience in a similar capacity
- Process great interpersonal and communication skills
- Resilient and adaptable in a fast-paced and often high-pressure environment
- Advantageous to have pathology / laboratory knowledge
- Advantageous to have driving license (2B)
- Advantageous to have experience in working as a personal assistant
