Senior Manager, Met Coal Trading

Responsibilities

Core duties and responsibilities of the role is to ensure well-functioning Met Coal initiatives and activities on a global scale. Expand RtM’s presence in the industry.

Operational

  • Assist Head of Trading Met Coal and Coke GH of the division to develop and execute Met Coal and Coke trading strategies which are aligned with the Company and division’s business goals and strategies.
  • Promote, share and execute trading strategy with Coal Division’s colleagues in regional offices upon management’s approval
  • Review and update trading strategies on annual basis or according to business needs
  • Produce periodical report e.g. market conditions, trends and other resources which could value add to the business
  • Achieve targets which have been mutually agreed
  • Support Head of Trading Met Coal and Coke to manage and optimize the Met Coal and Coke trading book
  • Create periodical reports for updates to the management
  • Network, develop rapport and maintain positive relationship with industry peers e.g. suppliers, counterparties, tradersx
  • Attend relevant industry events, training regularly to maintain the Company’s presence in the market
  • Visit key stakeholders as and when necessary

Internal Stakeholder Management

Maintain good communication and work closely with various stakeholders in the company

e.g. Heads of corporate support teams, back and middle office functions and Legal and Compliance, such as with:

  • Market Risk to ensure appropriate measurement, monitoring and reporting of Market related risks as well as an accurate Mark-to-Market (“MTM”) profit and loss from both physical and derivative transactions
  • Credit risk to ensure appropriate policies and procedures for effective management of counterparty’s performance risk stemming from OTC Swap Trades (E.g. margining procedures). Prepare country risk control documents, resolve various country risk control issues, ensure compliance with requirement of Country Risk Control
  • Legal and Compliance to complete counterparty registration applications including Anti- Money-Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), Security Trade Control (STC) compliance, AEO
  • Finance and Accounting to create vendor account, ensure tax compliance and resolve direct / indirect tax issues
  • Actively engage and create synergy with Coal Division’s colleagues in regional offices for support

Book and Risk Management

Based on the instruction of GH of the division and Head of Trading Met Coal and Coke, to conduct price risk management and entire book management of Met Coal and Coke trading including the tasks identified below:

  • Manage global risk position including execution of trade strategies and hedging of market risk using coal index futures where appropriate
  • Support application process for internal risk limits (e.g. Mikoshi) and managing the division’s trading activities to ensure compliance with Company’s policies and approved limits
  • Manage OTC Swaps (Coal Index) product offering directly or indirectly via RtMI or regional offices
  • Coordinate ISDA negotiations with new and existing customers including close collaboration with Legal and Compliance and Credit Risk functions
  • Monitor changes in counterparty’s risk (MTM exposures) regularly
  • Actively provide market insights for Coal and/or even other commodities for information sharing

Ad-hoc Support

If required and under instructions by Coal Division’s GM, to provide support for the following tasks:

  • Manage global risk position including execution of trade strategies and hedging of market risk using coal index futures where appropriate
  • Monitor changes in counterparty’s risk (MTM exposures) regularly
  • Actively provide market insights for Coal and/or even other commodities for information sharing

Team Management

  • Supervise Met Coal team member, consult with GH and Head of Met Coal and Coke Trading if needed for people management
  • Monitor and train Met Coal team member in various scope such as marketing, trading, analysis and related processes as and when required
  • Support Head of Trading Met Coal and Coke to build a strong, focused global team that operates competitively, efficiently and effectively
  • Ensure effective communication between team members to ensure f updates on trading activities
  • Contribute to a positive atmosphere of motivation and encouragement within the team

Compliance

  • Ensure all activities comply with company guidelines, policies (both RtMI and MC Global) and adherence to related legislation such as trade, tax laws
  • Follow through and support the preparation of required approval/legal documents with relevant departments for the trade
  • Monitor and be updated about legislation related to the trade activity

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of working experience in physical and futures bulk commodities trading industry, with minimum 3 years’ experience in Met Coal
  • Possess a recognized degree in business, financial studies or other relevant specializations
  • Experiences in Financial or Commercial Marketing or Trading are essential
  • Experiences preferred - Business Development, Logistics know-how such as chartering bulk vessels and/or other metals logistics solutions and Toll-gating experience (Concept to Pre-FS to FS and Execution)
  • Good grasp of accounting requirements relevant to trade transactions
  • Extensive experience in development and execution of business strategies
  • Familiar with freight and handling B/Ls, L/Cs and B/Cs, etc
  • Proven balanced commercial decision-making skills
  • Proven people management skills, excellent interpersonal skills such as influencing and negotiation skills
  • Good knowledge of insurance, AEO, import duties, indirect tax such as VAT, GST etc and compliance
  • Able to communicate in both written and spoken English at business proficiency
  • Able to work under pressure and prioritize workload
  • Able to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to details
  • Excellent PC skills – advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as trade systems, willingness to learn new systems
  • Excellent stress and time management skills
