Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant for work in Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine for the study “From Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis to Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Investigating Familial Risks, Molecular Mechanisms for Biomarker Development and Therapeutic Insights”. Our research laboratory actively interrogates liver diseases primarily on Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and its progression to Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC). Our laboratory conducts clinical research from management of patient cohort as well as cutting-edge wet and dry lab work to interrogate biomarkers, develop novel therapeutics, as well as device cost-effective care pathways in the disease. Our team is well known internationally for our work in this space and is well published. We collaborate actively with other investigators, both within Hepatology as well as in other disciplines. We have multiple ongoing collaborations with industry, and actively run clinical trials.


Appointments will be made on a 1-year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.


Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible for and work closely with the Principal Investigator and study team members to ensure the successful completion of the study on time and provide administrative support. The RA’s principal role will to provide support to the Principal Investigator and his team in terms of research, clinical, laboratory and administrative needs.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will liaise with the relevant personnel in the hospital to smooth the process of recruitment and data collection and will be accountable to the Principal Investigator (PI). The RA will be able to:

  1. Oversee the general management of the project;
  2. Provide administrative and secretarial support to the project, such as organizing regular meetings to maintain regular communication with other members of the research team and collaborate with the study sites and industry partners;
  3. Assist with Ethics and Grants applications and administration;
  4. Undertake the day to day running of the project at the study site, e.g. Collaborate with team members at the study sites, recruitment of subjects, conducting procedures according to study protocol, data collection at hospitals/participants’ homes;

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Study coordinator duties:
  2. Plan, organize and coordinate the workflow of study projects to ensure compliance to study protocols;
  3. Recruitment of subjects;
  4. Perform study activities as required by protocol and coordinate patients’ schedules and visits under research;
  5. Maintain proper study documentations for all study related activities according to regulatory and institutional standards -including case report forms, drug dispensation records, or regulatory forms (Investigator’s site files).
  6. Prepare for or participate in quality assurance audits conducted by study sponsors, federal agencies, or specially designated review groups.
  7. Biological samples collection and processing according to study requirements
  8. Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures;
  9. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

  1. Have a first degree with good results or hold a bachelor’s degree in life sciences, nursing or other related disciplines.
  2. be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, attention to detail.
  3. Any experience with ethics and research administration will be an advantage.
