About the role

Reporting to the VP - NPD Beauty and located in Singapore, you will pioneer the delivery of NPD Beauty’s 5 year Product Portfolio Plan through external partnerships, in alignment with the needs of the Beauty Business Unit.

In this role, you will be responsible for:


Product Portfolio – Continuous Alignment

  • Maintaining awareness of the 5 year Product Portfolio Plan – which documents all products NPD Beauty intends to deliver across all model families.
  • Retaining visibility of the 5 year Product Portfolio Plan as it reacts to Business Unit-led product opportunities, competitor threats, schedule change requests, and new products or technologies identified by the Discovery team.
  • Collaborating with NPD Beauty Category’s ‘Portfolio Architectures Lead’, to understand the detailed product architecture plans (eg. Motor/Heater/Driver) across all model families, with a 5 year horizon.

External Partners – Identification and Process Development

  • Working with Procurement, Commercial Operations and the broader Supply Chain team, to develop suitable outsource partners to aid the delivery of NPD Beauty’s 5 year plan.
  • Ensuring the Beauty category have relationships in place to react quickly to outsource opportunities across full products, sub-assemblies, technologies, and significant bought-out components.
  • Defining a clear process for how Beauty NPD interact with outsource partners, including RFI, RFP.
  • Developing a standard model for the OPEX, CAPEX and Headcount required to deliver a Beauty product or assembly with an outsource partner.
  • Enabling the VP and Head of Product Programmes to utilise this model to build the 5 year Product Portfolio Plan – understanding what is feasible to deliver withing annual budget constraints.
  • Refine how NPD Beauty best collaborate with an outsource partner, whilst still retaining Dyson’s look & feel and meeting time, spec, cost and quality.

Beauty Partners – Central Ownership

  • Maintaining a single, central list of all activities being progressed with external partners, within the Beauty category.
  • Ensuring all Dyson engagements with external partners related to Haircare products, flow through the NPD Beauty Category team – to deliver the agreed projects and priorities on the 5 year Product Portfolio Plan.

Product Portfolio – Delivery Model Selection

  • Triaging the 5 year Product Portfolio Plan and new product Vision Specs (within NPD, the Business Unit or Discovery), to recommend where external partnerships should be leveraged.

External Partners – New Opportunities

  • Leveraging regular communication with outsource partners to identify new opportunities within the Beauty category, previously unidentified internally. Eg. Cost down, size reduction, performance improvement.
  • Maintaining alignment with the upstream Discovery team to ensure both Delivery and Discovery are taking full advantage of outsource opportunities.

About you

  • Degree in Engineering or Science or demonstrate equivalent experience. Knowledge of Systems Engineering.
  • 5+ years’ experience of managing technical or manufactured products end to end.
  • Knowledge and understanding of multiple tooling and manufacturing techniques.
  • Proven experience delivering design solutions on time, to specification and within cost and budget constraints.
  • Experience delivering within a product development framework preferred.
  • Experience in both mechanical and electrical engineering (hardware & software).
  • Exposure to production operations, procurement, supply chain, marketing and sales preferred.
  • Authentic leadership: able to provide clear, collaborative direction towards a common goal.
  • Communication: able to listen and convey complex issues concisely and accurately to all levels in the business.
  • Interpersonal skills: able to build and leverage productive working relationships to deliver through others.
  • Data-driven decision-making: able to use sound analytical assessment to make technical recommendations.
  • Delivery: focused on project schedule adherence to success criteria.
  • Commercial awareness: able to balance product offering with project delivery to optimise business case.
