We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Design & Application Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of new products and applications. The successful candidate will be a key player in managing engineering projects, providing technical support, and driving innovation. This role requires a deep understanding of semiconductor processes, proficiency in CAD tools, and strong project management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Application Engineering:
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of new products and applications to meet customer and market needs with extensive knowledge on OSAT/Semiconductor front and back-end processes.
- Create and review technical specifications, design documents, and engineering drawings with a focus on precision, functionality and optimization.
- Utilize advanced engineering tools and methodologies to validate and optimize designs.
- Perform detailed analyses and simulations to ensure design robustness, performance, and reliability.
- Utilize CAD software to create detailed 2D and 3D models, ensuring adherence to functional and performance specifications.
Project Management:
- Manage engineering projects from conception through to completion, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
- Coordinate with internal teams, including R&D, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to ensure seamless project execution.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks and issues that could impact project success.
Innovation & Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and propose innovative solutions to enhance product performance and customer satisfaction.
- Product development and evaluate the design for manufacturability and reliability by participating in design reviews and the assembly of the prototype units.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to inform design and application strategies.
Customer Interaction:
- Support Sales Team on customer technical inquiries, providing expert advice and solutions.
- Collaborate with customers to understand their needs, provide technical support, and present design solutions that address their specific challenges.
- Gather and analyse customer feedback to drive product enhancements and address performance concerns.
- Conduct on-site customer visits as deemed necessary for the business.
- Familiar with semiconductor customer requirements (Equipment Applications and customer processes) and able to jointly develop new products and technical solutions (die attach, wire bond)
- Establish and sustain close working relationships and collaborate with customers.
Requirements:
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical design. (It will be added advantage if the experience extends to moulds, precise parts, and components for the semiconductor industry.)
- Strong familiarity with standard engineering practices and procedures.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate engineering documentation.
- High proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and other design tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply engineering principles to complex challenges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with semiconductor front-end or backend processes.
- Knowledge of advanced materials and coatings used in semiconductor applications.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes for precision components and consumables.
- Proven experience in project management and cross-functional teamwork.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, with strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Able to engage suppliers to develop materials, components and surface treatment requirements.
