We are looking for a skilled and versatile Boatman and Environmental Surveyor Assistant to join our team. This role involves supporting environmental surveys in both marine and land environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating boats, assisting with marine and land-based surveys, and ensuring the accurate collection of environmental data. This is a unique opportunity for someone passionate about environmental conservation and interested in working in diverse settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and navigate boats for marine surveys, ensuring the safety of all personnel and equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections of boats to ensure safe operation.
- Assist with environmental surveys in both marine and terrestrial environments.
- Collect, record, and manage environmental data, including water quality, sediment quality, and habitat assessments.
- Operate and maintain surveying instruments such as GPS, and other environmental monitoring equipment.
- Help in setting up and preparing survey equipment and tools for both marine and land surveys.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and environmental protocols.
- Collaborate with surveyors and scientists to analyze and interpret survey data.
Qualifications:
- Experience as a Boatman and/or Environmental Surveyor Assistant is preferred.
- Valid harbour craft license and relevant certifications.
- Knowledge of environmental survey techniques, including both marine and land-based methods.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately record data.
- Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, both on water and land.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- A passion for environmental conservation and sustainability.
- Driving license is preferable for transporting equipment and accessing remote survey sites.
