Job Overview:
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for managing and implementing safety protocols on construction projects, specifically focused on electrical works. This position ensures compliance with Singapore's Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) regulations, minimizes hazards, and leads efforts to create a safe working environment. The role involves site inspections, training, and ensuring compliance across multiple construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and implement safety protocols aligned with the Workplace Safety and Health Act (WSHA) and Singapore regulations.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures by employees, subcontractors, and visitors across all project sites.
- Perform regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, particularly those involving electrical safety.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures are implemented for electrical equipment.
- Manage safety protocols for multiple projects, ensuring adherence to safety standards throughout project phases.
- Develop and deliver internal training programs on safety practices, electrical safety, PPE usage, and emergency procedures.
- Conduct safety refresher courses for both new and existing employees.
- Investigate accidents and near-miss incidents, prepare detailed reports, and implement preventive measures.
- Maintain accurate records of all safety-related incidents and actions taken.
- Ensure all projects comply with Singapore’s WSH Act, Ministry of Manpower (MOM) regulations, and electrical safety standards.
- Participate in both internal and external safety audits, ensuring all safety standards are met.
- Lead internal training sessions for staff and subcontractors, ensuring understanding of WSH and MOM standards.
- Oversee the use and maintenance of safety equipment such as circuit testers, PPE, and insulated gloves.
- Manage the inspection of safety equipment to ensure readiness and compliance.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans, particularly for electrical hazards, and ensure workers are trained in emergency procedures.
- Handle ad hoc safety-related tasks as assigned by management, such as additional inspections or updates to safety protocols.
- Participate in safety committee meetings, sharing insights and improvement plans.
- Monitor and analyze safety performance data across multiple projects.
- Provide regular reports on safety trends, incidents, and recommendations for improvement.
Requirements:
- Education: Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a safety role within the construction industry, focusing on electrical works and managing multiple projects.
- Certifications: WSQ Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) certification, WSQ Implement Incident Management Processes (IIMP) certification, and Basic Electrical Safety Training certification (preferred).
- Skills: Strong understanding of electrical safety procedures, risk assessments, and lockout/tagout systems. Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Working Conditions: Frequent site visits, potentially hazardous environments, and may require extended hours based on project needs.
