Job Description

We are searching for a highly motivated and talented researcher to join Professor Barbaros Ozyilmaz's team and spearhead the exploration of 3D nanoporous amorphous carbon (NAC) materials. This project leverages our expertise in spark plasma sintering (SPS) into an unique materials toolbox to construct 3D materials with desired atomic arrangements and compositions. This project offers an opportunity to both collaborate internationally with several research groups and industrial collaborators.


The candidate will:

  • Develop innovative applications for NAC materials, focusing on overcoming critical industry challenges, e.g., next generation energy storage and sustainable technology research
  • Conduct research on fabricating and characterizing NAC-based devices to validate their functionality
  • Have research output to deliver high impact publications and patent filings
  • Write research grant proposals and obtain funding for technology translation and scale up
  • Mentor PhD and Master students
  • Analyse and outline pain points and challenges of relevant industry that would be addressed by the processes and products developed with 3D amorphous materials
  • Identify companies as suitable collaboration partners and establish industry collaboration towards industry joint development funding and licensing of technology
  • Conduct intellectual property review and identify and recommend possible licensing opportunities

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Electrical or Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines
  • At least 4 years of relevant research experience, preferably focused on energy storage and sustainable technology applications
  • Research project management experience is strongly encouraged
  • Proven track record of excellence in experimental nanomaterials research
  • Background in energy storage and sustainable technology research through nanomaterials synthesis and characterization is preferred
  • A detailed understanding of the key technologies involved is preferred
  • Strong network for collaborations in material characterization and application development
  • Able to work independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to resolve complex issues and to make technical, administrative and procedural decisions and judgments
  • Well-spoken and written English language is essential
