ICT SUPPORT TECHNICIAN FOR SHIPPING COMPANY

ICT personnel is responsible for:

- Shore-based and Onboard hardware maintenance and monitoring

- Shore-based and Onboard networking maintenance and monitoring

- Shore-based and Onboard server maintenance and monitoring

- Shore-based and Onboard software maintenance and monitoring

- Shore-based and Onboard remote or physical support

- Shore-based and Onboard Cyber Security compliance

Regarding the Office ICT support, ICT personnel should:

- Be able to install, configure, maintain and administrate a variant of Windows Server services and version (from 2016 until current), like Domain Controller \ Active Directory, DNS, etc. Knowledge of earlier versions like Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 R2 would be a plus

- Be able to install, configure, maintain and administrate VMware Virtualization Host Services

- Configure and monitor a variant of backup procedures and tools

- Be familiar with Office 365 services and subscription models

- Be familiar with Azure services and subscription models

- Be familiar with Cloud BPX infrastructure

- Be familiar with Digital Call Centres

- Support MS Office products

- Install, configure, maintain and troubleshooting a variant of Lotus products and services like:

o IBM Notes / Domino / Designer versions 6.5 up to 9.1

o HCL Notes / Domino / Designer versions 10 up to 12.1

- Know Danaos Suite solutions and be able to troubleshoot, maintain and support them

- Be able to Install, administrate and troubleshooting networking infrastructure:

o FortiGate

o Aruba

- Be able to install. Administrate and troubleshoot Synology solutions

- Be able to install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot company’s DELL PowerEdge server infrastructure

- Be able to install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot company’s VMWare virtualization infrastructure

- Implement solutions and guide users following company’s Cyber Security

- Be able to advise, guide and assist to company’s ICT enquiries regarding company’s software, hardware and networking usage, with solutions for the maritime industry

ICT personnel must be able to attend to, managed ships on short notice and to be able to:

- Get onboard, with any safe means necessary

- Work on 3-meter height occasionally

- Work at open sea, often under adverse weather and environmental conditions, under tight time constraints.

- Work in tight and small spaces

- Perform the needed tasks, while following company’s safety instructions

- Travel to any location the ship is located

Regarding the fleet’s ICT support, ICT personnel must be:

- Available 24/7

- Contactable 24/7 by e-mail and / or phone

ICT personnel for fleet’s support should:

- Train the seamen that attending ships under company’s management:

o E-mail communication infrastructure and policies

o Business various software infrastructure and policies

o Business Data Management

o Cyber Security policies and practices

o Satellite Equipment infrastructure and usage

o Crew WiFi usage and policies

o Onboard ICT infrastructure (business equipment, networking, etc) usage

o Business ICT policies

- Implement, train, monitor and enforce the onboard Cyber security procedures and policies.

Additionally, must be always up to date with the global Cyber Security guidelines and regulations, so the company’s onboard cyber security manuals and practices, to be in compliance with all authorities where company’s managed ship are trading

- Have a very good knowledge of advanced networking and be able to work / install / configure / administrate / troubleshoot a variety of products / equipment / services like:

o Cisco

o pfSense

o FortiGate

o GNU Linux (like CentOS 7)

o HP / Aruba

o MikroTik

- Install / maintain / configure / troubleshooting server infrastructure like:

o DELL PowerEdge Servers (Tower and Rackmount)

o MikroCube

o HP ProLiant Servers (Tower and Rackmount)

o Legacy Servers

- Have a very good knowledge and understating of a variety of virtualization infrastructure like:

o VMware Solutions

o ProxMox Solutions

o GNU Linux KVM (like CentOS KVM)

o Oracle VM Solutions

And their peripheral applications

- Have a good knowledge / understanding of database infrastructure like:

o Oracle SQL

o Microsoft’s SQL solution

o Access DBs

o Various varieties of MySQL (like MariaDB, SQLlight, MongoDB etc)

- Have a very good knowledge and be able to work / install / configure / administrate of satellite equipment like:

o Furuno FBB 251

o Furuno FBB 501

o JRC JUE 251

o JRC JUE 501

o Sailor 250

o Sailor 500

o Furuno GX (60, 100)

o Sailor GX 60

o Sailor GX 100

o Certum

o Intellian GX 100

o Starlink

ICT personnel should be familiar with the above equipment, not only as a standalone setup but also as part of the Inmarsat’s FX installation.

As part of that ICT personnel should additionally be familiar with the functions of:

o Gyro

o Magnetic Compass

o General navigation equipment

o Radios

- Be familiar with:

o Onboard building materials

o Cabling materials for ship’s environment

- Be able to support legacy operating systems and applications, like:

o Windows XP (SP2 and SP3)

o Windows 7 (up to SP1)

o Ubuntu legacy versions like 12.4

o Office 2010 Suite

o IBM Domino / Notes 6.5 and 8.5

- Support, install, configure and maintain mixed cloud based – local host environments, as it is needed.

- Be able to administrative and maintain mixed (cloud and local hosted) e-Mail solutions infrastructure.

- Be able to install. Administrate and troubleshoot Synology solutions, or equivalent

Given the unique nature of maritime industry and the harsh onboard environment, the ICT personnel for the fleet support should:

- Be familiar with any environmental variables that would affect the onboard equipment and plan accordingly

- Be able to collaborate with different time zones

- Be aware of the global regulations / conditions that are affecting the usage of the onboard communication systems and plan accordingly

- Be able to collaborate with a variety of different specialist in different sectors

- Be up to date with the global maritime regulations that affecting and / or govern the ICT’s operations and infrastructure

- Be able to work on off-line environments where Internet access is limited or non-existing

- Be familiar with the onboard working conditions, day-to-day ship’s needs and operations.


Position Requirements

· A Higher Education Degree or Certificate in Information Technology

· Minimum 5 years experience in similar/related position

· Solid , hands on experience in a network administrator role, users support and trouble shooting in office environment and onboard vessels

· Willingness to work overtime

· A team player and results oriented

· Excellent communication skills
