Risk Assessment and Management:
Identify and manage risks within and across
multiple projects.
Assess potential risks and develop mitigation
strategies.
Technical Specifications and Estimation:
Develop properly formatted specifications and work
items.
Review ship system drawings, blueprints, and
technical publications.
Estimate project costs and resource requirements.
Project Coordination and Reporting:
Use tools like Smartsheet to manage scope,
schedule, budget, crew, and vendor coordination.
Provide executive management reports on
budgeting and schedule.
Maintain relationships with clients and
stakeholders.
Project Execution and Monitoring:
Lead projects from requirements definition through
deployment.
Monitor project progress, adapt timelines, and
ensure adherence to requirements.
Assign resources efficiently and report project
outcomes.
Technical Writing and Communication:
Write specifications for special or repair and
maintenance (R&M) projects.
Communicate project status and changes to
relevant parties.
Requirements
Project Management Skills:
As a Marine Electrical Project Manager, you’ll need
strong project management skills. This includes
defining project plans, considering time frames,
funding limitations, staffing requirements,
regulations, resource availability, and customer
contractual requirements.
Technical Knowledge:
Familiarity with marine electronics, wiring, and
electrical components is essential. You’ll be dealing
with electrical systems on vessels, so
understanding marine-specific requirements is
crucial.
Communication and Leadership:
As a project manager, you’ll be the primary liaison
between customers, project staff, subcontractors,
vendors, and internal company personnel.
Effective communication and leadership skills are
vital.
Problem-Solving Abilities:
You’ll encounter technical challenges and
unexpected situations. Being able to troubleshoot,
make decisions, and adapt to changing
circumstances is crucial.
