Director, Affluent Banking Propositions

Job Summary

This role is responsible for working within the Global Affluent Segments and working on 2 major affluent banking propositions:

  • Next Gen Programme: Building out a Programme targeted at Banking the next generation (young adults) of the Bank’s Priority and Priority Private clientele. The goal is to create a value-driven offering that nurtures long-term client relationships, by engaging early the future inheritors and equipping them with the financial knowledge and tools they need.
  • Besides this primary responsibility, the role holder will also be working closely with the Personal Segment on Segment Continuum Up-tiering programme to enable quality upgrades to Bank’s Priority Banking segment, and sustaining the value through the client lifecycle.

Strategy
Next Gen Programme design and development:
• To develop and manage a holistic Next Generation programme aimed at engaging the next generation of Bank’s affluent clients.
• Through primary and secondary research, understand and map out client needs and opportunities / gaps in the market
• Develop/package solutions that enables Standard Chartered to bank the children of affluent clients. This will include:

  • Identifying product solutions that tap into the needs of parents and children to provide banking solutions to their children
  • Developing the enablers & partnerships for legacy planning ecosystem
  • Holistically recognising the household / family relationship and leverage that as a draw to engage & broaden the relationship

• Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., product, technology, marketing) to bring these solutions to market
• Incorporate the latest trends in family wealth planning, inheritance strategies, and generational wealth transfer into the programme

Up-tiering segment continuum
• Enable and accelerate “Quality” client upgrades to the Bank’s Affluent segments
• Ensure the smooth transition of up-tiered clients, via a seamless handoff process and relevant client engagement interventions


Key Responsibilities

Business
Next Gen Programme

• Develop and implement multi-market engagement programmes to build relationships with the children of current HNW clients, through workshops and events
• The responsibility will also include evaluating and establishing potential partnerships to anchor such engagement programmes
• Collaborate with market and Group functional stakeholders to integrate the programme into existing segment offerings, as relevant in the market
• Benchmark the programmes and offers continuously to competition and market requirements

Segment Continuum up-tiering programmes
• Collaborate with markets on focussed AUM build and new money generation actions and initiatives.
• Design and implement engagement programs, events, and campaigns to deepen relationships with newly up-tiered clients
• Develop loyalty and retention strategies that reinforce the value of remaining within the bank’s affluent and wealth management ecosystem
• Lead the collaborative effort to build a differentiated segment onboarding experience

Processes
Responsibilities:

• Establish success metrics and track outcomes - client participation, financial results, satisfaction, and long-term retention, etc.
• Managing and executing the given budget towards proposition and engagement initiatives, and managing the associated governance
• Ongoing control monitoring of the minimum control requirements set out in the policy and procedures to ensure that if a key-control activity stops working, or operates outside its normal operating conditions, it will be quickly detected in the ordinary course of line management

Next Gen Programme Management
• Lead the end-to-end execution of the next gen programme, including pilot phases, market prioritisation, and rollout & scaling
• Regularly assess the programme performance and make data-driven improvements based on client feedback and market trends

Up-tiering client initiative:
• Develop a robust engagement and hand-off process to manage the client movement across the continuum (both ways)

• Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values, embedding a high level of team engagement
• Strike effective partnership with market stakeholders (such as segment, distribution, product and marketing teams) and external partners to build the proposition, drive engagement initiatives

Risk Management
• Manage changes and reporting of the Operational Risk Framework (ORF), where applicable
• Ensure consistent implementation of agreed risk and control monitors across markets

Governance
• Ensure awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role
• Deliver effective governance in compliance with applicable internal policies esp. with regards to contracts, vendor and partner management etc.
• Develop a strong conduct, risk and control environment to minimise operational loss and audit failures

• Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Other Responsibilities

Help in embedding Business Change Management

• Set-up a full-scale accurate and timely financial dashboard for HNW/PP, and embed into MIS platform
• Development of analytics framework, in partnership with SCMAC
• Manage stakeholder engagement (global and local) at all seniority levels to enhance the client experience and quality of engagement


Our Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree, preferably in management. Professional qualification in data / wealth management areas such as investments, insurance, etc. will be an added advantage
  • 5+ years’ experience in banking / financial services. Including products, segments, data analytics fields
  • Experience in Segment Management and / or direct experience in running Next Gen initiatives will be an added advantage
  • Experience in working with multiple markets / multi-market projects / multi-stakeholder initiatives
  • Experience in business analytics and client insights mgmt
  • Experience in Retail Banking and Wealth Management products and sales, desirable / preferred
  • Proven ability to work with diverse teams globally and effectively collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, while proficiency in data scripts & programming will be an added asset
  • Project and Programme Management skills to monitor specific projects and take ownership of issues and tasks
  • Ability to work independently to strict timeframes, focused, organised and results-oriented
  • Good presentation, time management, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken Standard business language is a must, given the multi-market engagements that is needed; Understanding of Mandarin and/or Cantonese languages will be nice-to-have qualities that will help on the job as the incumbent will be supporting the Chinese Market.
